2.0 vs 2.5 which one?

I am in the market for a WRX wagon, I am torn between the model years offering a 2.0 vs a 2.5 motor. Is there a big advantage in going with the larger motor? I will be using the wagon as a daily driver, and will be taking road trips with it. Down the road I do plan on modding the car. Also, I would like to stay around $15k is that possible for the 2.5?

Thanks!

It will be tough to find an 06+ wrx wagon for 15k. I'd say your more in the price range of an 04-05 wagon (2.0L). I spend 19 on mine with 22k on the odo and I thought that was a good deal. Typically you'll find used wagons cheaper than used sedans. Just make sure you don't buy a heavily modded car. Good Luck.

i dont like the 2.5 because it uses the throttle buy wire. i like the the older style easer to work with throttle cable connected to my right foot.

I found a stock 2003 with 58k miles, seems in good shape the dealer is saying $13,500. What do you guys think? Also, found a 2004 with 22k miles for $16,500...is it worth the extra $3k for the newer year and less mileage?

Thanks for the replies, I have no ruled out buying a 2.5 wrx since it is way out of my price range.

I would definalty get the newer model with less miles... i have a 04, 2.0 and i got it with 20k on it and it works GREAT for $18.... I personally like the newer body style of the 04 the 02-03 look like a bubble...LOL.. and i have heard they fixed alot of little things starting with the 04+ models..alot of little bugs in the systems... SO i am obiously bias .however i would say it is worth ti

Get the 04 Wagon and be done with it. The 2.0 is more than enough motor for a DD. You can mod the heck out of them and the money you'll save from not buying the more expensive 06 model you can spend on rims, tires, suspension thing like that. Just get the car checked out real well before you buy it.

Thanks for the advice. The 04 is sold...waited to long. Is 13500 a good price for the 03 with 58k miles? It is in good shape, being sold at the Subaru dealer.

Sure, the ej255 isn't the most powerful motor in the world, but it's DEFINITELY worth considering over the 205. Don't act like the extra displacement isn't worth the money. Plus, on top of the displacement you get larger injectors and avcs. I've driven both motors on stock wrxs, and the 2.5 felt COMPLETELY different. The tranny issue is a completely different story, and will have to be taken into consideration with either motor.
