Just purchased a 2015 WRX 6-speed manual transmission today and noted a fine, continuous vibration coming from the brake pedal. Vibration is fine/fast (almost like what you would feel if you took a Sonicare toothbrush and held it under your foot). Vibration is sensed both when driving at high speeds and less so at lower speeds. Can feel it when just gently resting my foot on pedal before braking and continue to note it when pedal is depressed through majority of braking. I did have snowtires/wheels installed prior to purchase (General Altimax Arctic), so curious if this is a tire thing or something else.
Anyone else note this? I previously drove a '97 Camry so not used to a car with significant horsepower and not sure if this is a normal thing is these cars. Any feedback, experience from other owners, or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
^def take it back and have the dealer look at it.
The only thing I can think of is if they braced the master cylinder. I know when I put on the master cylinder brace on my car i got more vibration through the pedal.
I took it back to the dealership today. One of the mechanics took it for a drive and wasn't impressed with the vibration at all (had thick boots on though). Still not sure what to make of it, but they recommended just keeping an eye on it. Perhaps I'm just overly scrutinizing everything??
In regards to the master cylinder--if this is the cause, will it cause any damage if not addressed immediately?
No, What @Haw1es was talking about was adding an aftermarket brace to the master cylinder to help with firewall flex around the brake components. Effectively it stiffens the brake components and its that additional stiffness that communicates more vibrations through the master cylinder to the pedal.
Just curious you are comparing it to the feeling of a toothbrush, is this your first boxer? the vibration from a horizontally opposed engine is quite different that that from a v6 or v8. You can sometimes feel the vibration side to side rather than up and down like a v configuration. Just curious does the vibration speed match the rpm? If you put the car in neutral and press the throttle a bit does the vibration speed up?
Anyway welcome to the forums and hopefully you get that vibration straightened out.
