anyone know what the specs for the (either V or F 52) turbo in the WRX's are in the '09 models? I want to know what is a safe boost level to run in it. Say 18-19 max PSI is what I'm thinking, although I'll have the tuner do it when I get there. Just curious if there's a link so I can see the max HP, and whatever other specs I can find out on this turbo to see how far I can take it before needing a replacement. So I hear it's a bit better than the '08 turbo... any feedback here is greatly appreciated !
Well the turbo we have in the 09's is the next step in turbo size for the 08's. Your tuner should have a good idea how much boost your turbo can handle but i would agree with your estimates. Boost addict is running our turbo and hes going to be pushing 20psi. DO you have any other mods or are you just gonna crank up the boost? any EM?
Sweet, I'm not ready for the whole injectors and what not upgrades, but just curious how much it's capable of. I have a downpipe ready for install to add to the catback (SPT), drop in air filter, and then when tune time comes I have the Grimmspeed 3 port EBCS. The Perrin rep told me I won't have to worry about a CEL coming on with the DP so I'm stoked on that and hopefully can get that on this weekend. I won't be messing with the boost yet, but I saw a page that had all the stats on max pressure and such (equaling the HP gains to see how far I "could" go when I get that lucky lottery ticket, haha). No other engine management currently, but I installed the boost gauge and a short throw shifter so far other than the above. After the tune I will be looking at sways and endlinks. Thanks for the info guys.
BTW Turmic, what do you mean "complete with cheats"?
Joe what do u mean the Perrin rep told you you wont have CEL problems? did he say one down pipe or another will throw one? i ask because i want to buy the Invadia catless because its cheaper then any other with a cat. but with an AP i dont want to being throwing CEL lights because i cheaped out on $200
If you tune for it you will be fine from what I've read and hear. Another issue to look at (or into) is the boost creep. Mine has a bit of a spike (instead of the 13 psi stock where sometimes it hit 14, now it will tag on or near 15. not a big deal, but there regardless), but no creep yet. I will have the tuner magic done either this weekend or next and adding in a Grimmspeed EBCS to double up the boost control.
Synolimit, with any downpipe you won't get your money's worth out of it until you get a tune for it anyways, so that's a big reason I held off on installing it just so I could do a few things at once and not pay for multiple tunes (since I haven't bought an access port...yet). I did end up installing the Perrin one piece dp and for over 120 miles on it now with no CEL. I suppose I won't get one, but other issues like the boost creep can occur since the whole flow is changed. I'm not getting boost creep, but it is spiking as I wrote in the previous post (that was the day after or of the install, but maybe forgot to mention that, haha). I hear its much more of an issue with a catless. The high flow cat makes a nice sound, but I wanted the power without the blower noise ya know, haha. Still a bit deeper growl and a higher tone when flooring it. Plus I can hear a little "vwhhhizzzsh" from the turbo now, which is wild (thought something was wrong at first, hehe). If you have an access port you'll be fine, but may want to look into some deeper threads concerning the catless dp and what you need do for the best management. Sorry I can't help much since I'm a new Subie owner and just find out as I go while looking at the next part like you are now, lol. I hope it works out well for you!
hey its cool no prob!! i just picked mine up last night. the turbo and wastegate are a nice sound already bone stock!! i desided not to go with the catless invadia because Perrin is selling a AP and there DP for only $999, the AP + catless invadia was gonna run $972. id rather spend the extra $28 and get a catted DP and i really like Perrins stuff! plus since Perrin and everyone elses DP are over $500, picking up that DP in the package for only $300 is a deal.
Nice man! That's a score for sure... Now I'm a little jealous, lol. Maybe they'll cut me in on that deal when I get the funds up for it, but I was just going for a pro tune soon so I'm not sure if I should hold off on that and get the AP or not now... Did you notice the 1/8th inch clearance on the DP to the fire wall? It sure does sound nice though and the response for boost is wild without a tune or anything else for sure!
