Well it's been months, maybe years since I have posted here.
Currently I have a 2001 Cobra Convertible w/ 4.10 gears, IRS Brace, Polyurethane Bushings, Full Length Sub Frame Connectors, MGW Short Shifter, Aluminum Driveshaft, and a Spec Stage II Clutch. I love the car and all, just want something different and a coupe this time around. I had always planned on getting an 03/04 Cobra because of the stock platforms potential and raw power, plus a 6 speed. I did once have an 02 Wrx which I was rather dissappointed with, performance and reliability-wise. My current car has beaten Evos and Sti's. Even had one dead stop race with a modded WRX and took it off the line very well. I don't know if I can live without the low end tq, and 6700 rpm redline of a DOHC cobra.
Too many young kids have mustangs in my area and it drives me nuts. They all GTs with exhaust, and they act like they've got the fastest cars in the world and talk a whole lot of sh*t about imports and all other cars. I don't want the thread to turn into an import v. domestic arguement, just get some honest opinions out there.
I am considering an 06/07 STi this time around though. I have seen an 07 with 8200 miles for $32k, a brand new 07 for $34k (which I'm gonna check out later today and see if they will go lower because it's left over), an 06 w/ 20800 miles for $29800. Those are all white w/ gold rims.
What are the packages available with the 06/07 Sti's? What makes them better than the past years? They all come with stereos now correct?
Most importantly, what will it take cost-wise to beat and hang with 03/04 cobras and C6 Vettes? Basically, I'd want to be in the high 11's at some point. I can acheive that easily with an 03/04 Cobra. I need to test drive the STi today to see if I really will like it. Turbo lag really gets to me but it'd be a great daily driver too, being in CT. I can also get rid of my 94 Grand Cherokee and add to the trade in.
Sorry for the long post, but I honestly know nothing about modding an STi (also with the warranty, I probably couldn't do much for a year or two anyway).
Thanks,
Dave
