Get a up pipe and down pipe then a access port it will make a big difference, like manofhonor said. I dont really see how a custom grill could slow you down, i cut the subaru embalem out of my front grill and painted it black! I would go all alpine with the system very good quality!
I've never seen the grille before, but i hope you aren't getting sme cheesey chickenwire grille, no offense if that's what you're doing, but that, IMO, would look lame. I have seen some nice aftermarket grilles, that are the whole center plastic piece and everything, if that's what you're getting, then it will look good. obviously you want a car that will be a nice car, with good sound system and everything, but everyone's gotta have some go to their show! (not like the WRX stock is a slouch or anything) Like previously stated, Get a aftermarket downpipe and a un-catted uppipe (for safety, not necessarily power-mod) and then top it off with the Accessport!!! You will be very satisfied with the newfound power...
And I'm a student, so income isn't too high. I'm looking for a sound system with clarity, but plenty of power. My stock one is weak sauce! I'm getting no bass. And once going past about 10 volume it sounds terrible.
Is the accessport worth getting if I weren't to get the up/down pipe?
That depends on what you are looking for. I was running Cobbs stage 1 map before I deployed and it was a noticable difference in power delivery for me.

I bought this car about a year ago used. And I have found a cord coming out of the middle section, kind of by the gas pedal. Attached to it are two on/off switches. On is labeled ECU Power and the other A/B Map.
Are these standard? Or something the previous owner did? What exactly would they do? They're both engaged at the moment, btw.
