Exclamation 02 WRX CEL going on and off

My 2002 Wrx has been having the check engine light go on and off every couple of times I turn it on. I open the hood and nothing looks or sounds wrong and there's no smoke or anything. Just confused as to why it would come on and off. Maybe just a sensor?

An on/off kinda thing is usually a cat or o2 problem. Pull into any parts store next time it comes on and scan it though. Hopefully it's not a cat! The 02' double cat is ridiculous money!!

Well it comes on every couple starts and then shuts off after like two more starts. I tried an Advanced Auto Parts but their scanners wouldn't pick up Subaru's ECU lol.... if it is the CAT what would your best bet be for the money? go aftermarket with like a high-flow cat, or just get a factory one?

I'd personally go TBE at this point. Time to pull that CC outta the wallet lol!

Is there a certain brand you would recommend?

As far as brand specificness goes I'm not that knowledgable on the 02' but I'm sure some others will chime in to help on that.

Make sure you pull that code before diving in too deep though. Could be something else. It's just my hunch due to your symptoms that its a cat/o2 failing on you.

If the car is not running any different more than likely it is the O2 sensor...If the cat was bad then your car would run like crap.
