02 vs 03 WRX ??

I am about to buy a WRX, and have been to a few dealerships in my area. I was wondering if there are any major differences between the 02 or the 03. A couple dealerships have some 02's left over and I would like any advice on wether spending the extra couple grand for the 03 is worth it. Thanks alot.

The 03 wrx has 8kw more power and 10nm more torque, in tests here in Australia the 02 wrx did 0-60mph in 6.2s and 1/4mile in 14.4. The 03 wrx did 0-60mph in 5.82s and 1/4mile in 14.12s. The 03 model also has suspension adjustments over the 02 model which reduce understeer and give marginally sharper handling, so yes the extra couple of grand is worh it

The only difference on the US market 02MY and the 03MY WRX's is the lighted ignition key ring. Thats it.

yeah things are very different here in Australia, but the above facts are correct, the 2003 WRX is much better, and a little quicker than the 02 WRX, those times are exactly right!!

In the USDM they spec the same, that doesn't mean that they are the same. The AUS differences mentioned would not be detectable from driving and could only be measured by an instrument. However, with the money saved on an '02 vs. '03 you could easily mod the '02 well beyond any difference.

There are several changes in 03. I think the LSD was new for 03....they changed the struts (internally) the computer got mapping mods, not to mention the brakes (still lacking if you ask me) I've also raced my sis's (02) and had about a 1/3 car legenth on it. Both short throw. Having driven both, the 03 has quite a better ride and the engine seems better tuned at low end.

I bought my 02 wagon because the dealer told me there were no differences between the 02 and 03. The 02 was $2800 cheaper, so i went with it. Guess they just wanted rid of it.
Regretting it because im having trouble with this car. Tough gear changes, lumpy running at full throttle in the lower rev ranges, and from what im reading from you guys, it dosent appear to have the "throw you back in your seat" appeal that everyone elses does. And im sure i can hear escaping boost from somewhere at part throttle. And it will absolutly not start if you have you foot on the gas. Its only done 3447 miles.

i think the 02's the boost is limited to around 8 to 10psi in first and maybe second gears, and 03 go can reach full boost in all gears 13.7 psi

yea... and 0-60 in 5.4??? where do they get the # from? this car is lucky to hit 60 in 6.5 seconds. my mustang was about 4.8 , 0-60 and even with all wheel drive, my cobra would leave this thing like it's nothing.

i've heard that the '03s have some transmission changes, more durable or something... which from all the transmission problems i've been reading about, sounds like a good enough reason alone to go for an 03, if it is true.
