Winter/Summer or Good All Season?

I don't know much about wheels and tires so I need help once again. Here is where I am at:

I want 17" Gunmetal Rota Torques, no question there. Now I know the best way to do things is to have summer and winter tires and switch for the seasons. So my plan would be get winter tires on my stock 05 WRX rims and then get the summer tires on my Rota's. But, what if I get the Rota's and get a really good All-season tire? Now I say a good all-season because being on a budget I would get decent summer and winter tires or spend the extra money for just the all-seasons.

I live in Northeast Ohio where I do see some Lake effect snow and have snow potential have it from oct. thru march.

It's one of those those things where all-seasons cannot compare to a decent set of winter tires when it comes to winter driving, and summer tires in the heat. The problem of course becomes needing to front the cost of two sets of tires, set of rims, changing every season, and more then likely tread life. But good tread life does not make good tires. You'll be happy when you end up curbing your stock rims in the winter (and not your rotas) or when the tires save your car from $3000 in damage, or worse. At least that's how it has worked for me.

If you can afford it, get an extra set of wheels and use season-specific tires for winter and summer.

So after these two posts the right conclusion would be the option which I knew was right but wanted to avoid is having two sets of rims and two sets of tires.

So what I should pursue is my 17" Rota's with summers and keep my stocks with winters? I know that's what is best, figured I'd check tho. Any thoughts on what summer tires are good and decently priced? As well as winter tires?

Moment of honesty. I have tried to read the unabombers manifesto, other posts on here and other forums. I have looked at what the measurements of the rims and tires, but I still cannot make sense of it. I know I need to keep track of of lug patterns and obvious sizes like get a tire that fits a 17"rim but I don't know what else. Can you give me specifics in what rim measurements I need for the Rota's, the measurements for the tires on the Rota's, and the measurements I would need on my stock 16".

Most online tire dealers like tirerack have a built in tire calculator.
