Snow tires

So I'm looking to get some snow tires on my spare set of wheels. I was wondering what the pros and cons from studded to studless tires were. I will only be using them to go up to the mountain and then swapping out the wheels so I'm not too worried about the noise of the studs. Any one know what would be better?

Unless you're going to be driving on snow-blanketed roads 100% of the time, you don't really need studded tires. You'll probably be fine with studless winter tires like the Bridgestone Blizzaks or something similar. Performance winter tires would be the way to go if you were going to be driving on cold/dry roads more often than snowy/slushy roads, although they do perform great in snow too compared to all season or *gulp* summer tires.
