Lockers

how would i make a rear locker for my 2012 wrx? i know that there is a way and if anyone has done this i would like to know.

took me 10 read throughs to realize you were asking about a locking rear differential. "Locker" was not a term I was familiar with. Locking Rear diffs are old tech. Limited slip differentials are more widely used. WRX's used to have LSD rears until Subaru cheapened out on the GR...

Making one yourself though? Wow. No idea where to point you for that.

Unless you are going to rally, drift or drag race the car, I wouldn't waste time nor money.

I'm turning my WRX into a 4wd off road vehicle not the tuner car.

Off road as in Rally or as in Jeep off roading?

jeep off roaring but nothing way serious

Well the biggest problems there would be getting both diffs locked and the only way I can think of doing that is welding both of them, which I don't really recommend. I don't know of any company that sells them for Subaru.

Isn't the unique property of a Subaru AWD system that it will mechanically put power to the wheel that has traction? I understand what you are looking to do, but I wonder if it is really necessary given the Subaru AWD system properties and undertaking "nothing way too serious" trails.

Not asserting knowledge here, just curious to hear others' opinions on this.

WRX center diff is open to begin with. That's a bigger problem than an open rear.

the only way i can think of is to weld it... where im from there a lot of "off roaders" (drunk rednecks with trucks that they try to get stuck)

i know a couple guys who have lifted subarus (no wrx but foresters and bug eye TS) and they go to the "dog party" and tear up the trails without locked diffs.

you would be better off lifting it properly and spending your money on other things.

in my opinion the wrx isnt going to be that great of a rock crawler/ mud pit/ jeep type vehichle... the powerbad is too high and theres no torque until your spooled... might be better off buying a cheap forester or something because auto trans and low end torque is what makes good off road vehichles.

if you do make a wrx off road think im interested to see how it stacks up and ill be watching. good luck man
