Another brake question

Do all suaru disks have a small "lip" around the outer edge. The disks on there now have this raised lip. At first I though maybe they were worn from bad pads at some point, but they are all exactly the same and the disk surfaces are perferctly smooth; not ground down from a bad pad. I thought I was going to change them too, but I dont think I need to; not that I can today anyway since they sold me the wrong ones anyway.

Are you talking about squeal tabs or the shims?

sounds like he's talking abut when a rotor is brand new it should be 100% smooth from the hub to the outer edge. but his runs smooth from the hub and then hits a raised edge, like a 1mm or so. old worn rotors normally do this because the pads bites and eats more on the inside and the outer most edge never gets touched by the pad so a lip starts to form.

yeah, thats what I meant to say. I meant rotors, not disks i guess. It really doesnt look like the rotors where worn by previous pads. they are perfectly smooth and all of the pads on there now do have some wear left. All 4 rotors are exactly the same.

I see....I miss read it. As long as its not a grooved surface then you can re-use the rotor. Most people would tell you to resurface the rotor or get a new rotor. When I replaced my pads my rotors were smooth and had a small lip around the edges. My brakes work fine, but am seeing my rotors get grooved to a small extent. So, I know that I will have to replace my rotors with my next brake pad change.
