2008 WRX Sedan tire/wheel question

Trying to get a handle on tire size for a new set of 17X8 wheels for a 2008 WRX sedan. Basically, my apparent choices are 235/45/17 or 245/40/17 in the brands of tires I am looking at. (was trying for 235/40/17 but are hard to find) Does anyone have experience with fitment issues with either of these two set-ups? Thanks very much for any advice!

both would be fine for a 17x8 wheel. 245 is as wide as i would go though. try harder for 235/40. they are the golden tire for WRX's. mind you your speedo will be off a bit but its lower so you wont get tickets. your speedo will say 60mph but you will be going 58.1mph. you will be taking stress off your drivetrain aswell by using a smaller diameter tire. this is a good thing since you have the weaker 5 speed.

(by weaker i mean not the 6 speed. the 2008+ 5speed is actually decent. as of 2008 all wrx 5 speeds use the thicker RA gears)

I run (well ran, not sure if I'm gonna put them back on) 235/45/17 tires from a later year wrx on my 08 stock rims with zero fitment issues of any kind. They were nice too, they have the tires that stick out past the metal lip so you don't get curb rash if you contact one .
