Guys, I just installed a Perrin TMIC on my 09 WRX H/B. I was running Cobb Stage 2 ACN91 and the target boost was 17 psi +- 0.8.
While I was testing the IC (cool night around 60s @ California), the boost was up to 19.1 psi. I did not change anything but the new IC. Is this normal?
well generally there is less of a pressure drop across the intercooler with upgraded units...which is why cobb doesn't recommend you running an upgraded I/C on the OTS maps b/c they tune the BCS to run with the stock unit so when you upgrade it will seem like you are running more boost

Thank you for the replies. I reset the ECU and reflash it with Perrin's Stage 2 map and it took care of the problem.
It might have been boost spike but it really freaked me out.
On the Cobb stage 2 map note, it only recommended not to use after market intake. It didn't mention anything about intercooler.... just thought the boost pressure was unaffected by the cooling ability the intercooler.
Steve, how did the Perrin TMIC fit in your car (tight, perfect like stock, ect)? I'm looking at getting one real soon. I can't see why it would cause more boost, but since it's solid metal rather than the plastic ends like on the stock one; Perhaps the flow is better? The idea of using colder, more dense air to produce more power may be doing exactly what it's supposed to, but the boost controller should be on top of boost target still. Let us know what you find out please!

The Perrin TMIC fits fine. I end up having to take out one plastic piece, which had a clamp sticking out. I rate myself a newbie when it comes donw to hands-on stuff and I found it harder to install this than I expected => comparatively speaking, it took me 10 minutes to take out the old IC (about 7-8 lbs with smaller size), and it took me a good chunk of time trying to manuver the new unit (about 19 lbs - based on the shipping package with bigger size) in place. Like I said I am just a newbie and it probably takes someone way less time to fit it right in.
one side note tho... I am working with Chris @ Perrin to resolve the issue with the Perrin Struct Tower Brace. After putting on the new Perrin TMIC, it doesn't seem like I can fit the STB back on. More updates to come....
It takes a bit of finnaggling to get back on. After my 3rd attempt, I figured out a easier way to get my Perrin TMIC on.
But, yes the upgraded tmic will change a lot of your boost characteristics. IE: your boost drop pressure, the bar and fin design vs stock flows a lot better, a cooler charge temp, and I'm sure I'm forgetting something. So...this is why i'm going back to get a retune. I popped a CEL with my upgraded tmic on my protune, which was setup with the sti tmic.
