Well I decided to get the following mods for the car. I'm not going over board as of right now due to I want to properly break in the motor. I have read a few threads about engine failure in the 08-09 impreza wrx. Heres my short mods list:

1. Invidia N1 Race Exhaust.

2. Perrin short throw shifter with bushing.

3. Perrin gauge combo. Boost and EGT.

4. 15% tint all the ay around except front windshield.

In very near future i will be getting a Invidia DP with Cobb/custom tune and CAI. Tell me what ya think.

I would skip the Perrin short shifter...and get the TIC/Karboy short shift lever combo with bushings:

TiC 08 Impreza Super Shifter Set Turn In Concepts

This combo comes with all the bushings, lever, etc. IMHO that is your best bet.

Also, I don't particularly like the placement of the Perrin Gauge pack (it kinda blocks/clutters up your stock gauges. IMHO some Autometer gauges and a clock pod or an A-pillar pod would better. Check JSC Speed: Performance Parts Warehouse they have various gauges and mounting solutions. Personally, have the ATI clock pod, Autometer Boost and Oil Pressure Gauges, and AEM UEGO (wideband O2/AFR gauge). I would just verify any pod/mounting solution you get fits the '09 WRX, as I am unsure if there is any changes in the A-pillar design of the newer WRXs.

This is more of a personal taste thing...I think the Invidia N1 Racing Exhaust is UGLY as hell. Big fart tip, with the blue titanium look = super ricey. Not to mention the Racing version is very loud due to not having a resinator. If you are set on that look then I would conisider the Invidia N1 'Regular'. Personally, for the '08+ WRX I like the look of the Cobb, Borla, or Turbo XS catbacks MUCH more.

Additionally, I would upgrade the catback and DP at the same time, b/c IMHO the catback is worthless w/o the DP. Lastly, If you plan on going past Stage 2 the Cobb AP is a waste. If you are going to do a custom tune you might as well save the $700 on the Cobb AP and put that towards a custom open source tune w/dyno time.

I agree with some of the above said.

I am partial to the Cobb short shifter (its the most expensive). But it has both shift and height adjustability independent of each other. So not only is the throw shorter, so is the height. Some arent into that, but I love the shorter height of mine also.

The Perrin exhaust also looks good, saw a stealth version (it was on a black wrx which just made it that much more appealing). And it has also been proven that a CBE makes power on the 08 WRX. The DP will unlock the most power, but you will get some gains to a CBE unlike the 02-07 cars that didnt.

And if you do go past stage 2 the AP isnt worthless. Im tuned with a 20G and supporting mods with 5 different maps (for 92 and 4 maps for 91OCT) (not including launch control and flat foot shifting that I also have.) Not only is the AP able ot read and clear codes, its a live data monitor, has the ability to log, and on the fly map switching (which I do use from time to time).

Not trying to start a war or anything, but letting you in on another point of view.

Thanks for the all your opinions on this thread. I will look into the following items:

Kartboy STS, a different catback and I agree that the Invidia CBE looks ricey. I might just hold off on the guages at this point and open up the exhaust and tune. I believe there is a dyno in Philadelphia,Pa and I'll get a hold of them tommorow. Again thanks for all in put on this.

I'm waiting to get the Perrin short throw addition just because unlike Joshua I like where the stick is height wise (no offense :p ) I'll let you know how I like it, but the stock throw is pretty ridiculous especially from 2nd to 3rd... Plus the bushings are a must from what I've seen. I also have an Omori boost gauge on the way from j-spec tuning: J-Spec Tuning Apparently is the closest to perfect match on the 08+ WRX dash. Nothing but good reviews and $70 cheaper than a Defi for quality and some style (but still not as cool as those damn expensive Defi's!).

on the shifter subject: i have the perrin shifter with the bushing and i really love it. i needed to keep the stock shifter height (have to have the seat all the way back because i am pretty tall and 5th was a stretch as is) but wanted the shorter throw. shift throw is greatly reduced and the shifter now has a great hefty yet crisp feel. i would suggest any one looking for a short shifter to get it. make sure you get the bushing though, shifter feels terrible without it.

so, perrin is a very good option for the shifter imho. not to mention, the cobb shifter is no longer in production. so, good luck finding one of those...

Just an update on the mods. I've been doing alot of soul searching with my exhaust by utlizing with YOUTUBE and i fell in love with the invidia N1 it just sounds nasty IMO. So I ordered a Kartboy SS with front and rear bushing along with Invidia N1 CB for starters. I now it might look altiile ricey but i can get use to it.

Once I get a 1000 miles on her and will upgrade to a DP,Custom tune,Bogger intercooler and CAI all at once. I found a dyno facility in NJ that specialises in Cobb/custom tuning.
