Perrin's intakes require custom tuning to use.
Perrin's intake DOES NOT require tuning on an otherwise stock vehicle. BUT it cannot be used with ANY other modifications or tuning without a map customized for their CAI.
This is stated quite clearly on their website.

You do get better performance with CAI custom map but it's not required.

That said, Perrin has been absolutely awesome to me... I have a 2010 WRX. Bought their CAI last summer, noticed a slight difference in sound (BPV and wastegate are both much louder). Seemed like a slight drop in off-the-line response but that is quickly replaced by a faster hit of acceleration once above 2000 rpm. Engine seems to peak faster due to easier breathing.

Then I bought an Accessport from Perrin with their Stage 1 CAI map, huge change! The custom map was included in the price… BONUS!

The best part of Perrin's customer service is that I have been told quite clearly that if I'm buying parts from them directly, they will include the custom maps as needed without further charge! This is why I decided to use all Perrin parts, what other company supports their parts with free custom mapping? Chris Cone (their map tech) has been invaluable!

I believe they charge $180 for complete custom Emapping (send in your data-logs and they send back custom tuning). But they support their parts with customized maps.

I have a tough time thinking about buying from anywhere else.

1. That logic makes no sense. How would it only throw off MAF sensor readings when the car has other mods and not when it's stock?
2. Lots of vendors makes false claims in their sales ads.

Perrin's intakes take custom tuning or one of their garbage maps they send you plain and simple. Had one on my 07wrx and it was trash until the car was tuned.

Perrins nice because they want to sell! To me anyone can make an intake as long as the MAF housing is centered. The filter on the other hand needs to be properly made. I haven't heard good things of foam filters. BoostAddict a former member here bought their big intake and the filter had 1/2 qt at least of oil soaked on it. Very gross and bad quality control.
