Official: Oil Review Thread

I searched and didn't see any type of thread like this on the forum, so I figured it be a good one for us to have. I hope this thread encourages others to test their oil, post their results, and swap some knowledge/ideas.

Now I didn't think of testing my oil when I drained it at 1k before going stage 2 and installed the Mobil1 that's been tested, but I know "NeverSummer" has OE 5w-30 test results so hopefully he's the next one to share.

So this is MY first time having oil professionally tested. I plan to regularly monitor it each time I do an OC and try new oils with each one. My Rex is very important to me and I want to permenantly run what's proven to best in MY application. And everyone likes facts rather than opinions...well at least I do...and I'm thinking this is the way to get em lol!

But I look forward to seeing other people's results and I'm very open to any suggestions on oil or diagnoses of my charts. I am do for an OC soon and am thinking of trying Amsoil next. I'm running Royal Purple 5w-30 right now just FYI.

And I did explain to them the difference between a manufacturers "HP" and the real HP of a car btw lol! (If you read the comments on my results page you'll understand what I mean)

I don't have results from an actual test but ill say that when I changed to rotella t-6 5-40 synthetic it cut down on noise from the engine. I might have to send mine out after I do the next oil change.

Def worth the $20 Tyler. NeverSummer was actually the person who first brought it up to me.

Royal Purple over Mobil1 was a big cutdown on noise for me too. The only reason I'm not testing Rotella next is cause I know Dave (NeverSummer) is running it right now. I know Rotella has the most respect with Subarus though from posts I've read about oil.

Does anyone on here have any past history with understanding values of these charts better than myself? I'd like to get some feedback on the lab's comments about higher than normal levels of silicone and iron in my stage2 setup. Seem residual like they're saying.?.?.

It def seems the viscosity in Mobil1 is horrendous! I'm hoping to see better numbers off the RP I'm running now.

So it's just about time to do an oil change. I am looking at switching off of the "wonderful" subie oil. What is best recommended at this point in time as far as weight and brand? And what oil filter do you recommend?

Subaru's oil filter and favorite oil is like asking what beer do you drink.

Dave aka NeverSummer (need tagging feature) has stats on OE and Rotella I think too. I'll send him a text and see if he can post his stats sheets. Until I get further into my sheets with OC's that'll give us a halfway decent idea on what could be better than Mobil1. What Dave has for stats will differ from me seeing as we're different cars with different mods, but it's better than nothing. Having stats sheets on different oils with the same car is the only real way to take opinions out if the equation and be able to see facts. That's the basis behind me doing this really. But I'm thinking pretty much anything would be better than Mobil1 though! The viscosity levels on the Mobil1 (which only had 3770 miles on it) was horrible...and that was a 0w-40 oil too!

All my tests will be done with OE filters just for anyone wondering.

You don't have a built engine that you want to baby like me. So, I spend money on the expensive AMSoil high zinc stuff or Motul.
