They might but when your planning on spending that kind of money why risk it, most shops only charge about 1000 total to install sleeves

Point taken. I have a feeling this is going to be a long project (cost prohibitive). !Cry! I'm definitely excited to get started though.

I will start with sleeves, pistons and fuel delivery systems(pump, rails, injectors). Any recommendations on manufactures for those parts?

APR Head Studs/1 Step Colder Spark Plug - $210.00
Brian Crower Stage II Cams - $680.00
Heads - Clean, PnP, 3-angle valve job - $600.00
Turbo - Blouch 20g-xt 10cm^2 Hotside - $1,200.00
Walbro 255 lph fuel pump and install kit - $100.00
Total Cost - $8,546.33

Mind you I've already spent $5,600 on the following current mods:
Engine:

COBB TBE
GrimmSpeed 3-Port EBCS
GrimmSpeed PnP'd Exhaust Manifolds
GrimmSpeed Crosspipe
GrimmSpeed 38mm EWG Up Pipe
Tial 38mm Vband EWG w/1 bar spring
Perrin CAI
Perrin TMIC

Drivetrain:

Kartboy SS
COBB Knob
Kartboy Engine Pitch Stopper
Kartboy Front and Rear Bushings
Kartboy Transmission Crossmember Bushings
Group N Transmission Mount
Perrin Subframe Bushings
Whiteline Positive Power Rear Diff Bushings

Suspension:

Perrin 22mm rear swaybar w/adjusdable endlinks
Perrin 25mm front swaybar w/endlinks

Gauges:

Prosport 60mm EGT Gauge
Prosport 60mm Boost Gauge
Innovate LC-1 Wideband with 52mm DB Red Gauge
Custom Fabbed 3-pod A-pillar setup

Other:

GrimmSpeed Turbo Heat Shield
RallyArmor ## Mudflaps - black w/gray lettering
SLC Subaru Stickers (+40 hp)
Perrin/Cobb License Plate Frames (+10 hp each)

I'm also doing the build "backwards" from what most people would do... The engine first. Don't count on your trans lasting too long at even 400whp, 500 forget about it. Once I add in my suspension, transmission, and maybe brakes down the line, I'm looking at 25k for a full build, plus 27k purchase price. The price will go up from there, and I know it.

That sucks.

Is it really necessary to do all the things RcrsWetDream has done to his drivetrain or just upgrade the clutch? What blew up on yours exactly?

Upgrading the clutch is probably the worst thing to do generally. You can usually do gears, cluthc/flywheel, and front lsd depending on the intentions of the car and how it is driven.

400whp, cheapest way is to sell the WRX and get an STi. Put in sleeves and some better pistons along with a big turbo and enjoy. Only drivetrain mods you'll need for a 400whp STi is a clutch. Might break a diff if you launch a lot, but probably not.

if you think all that is alot...I've got 10 times that invested...but the shear power is what blew my trans....I tried flat footing the 3-4 shift and it just grenaded

So the STi has drivetrain upgrades as well as a bigger stock turbo? I was under the impression the only difference was that the STi had a better suspension and bigger turbo, but everything else was the same.

it's got a better trans...but you'll still probably need axles, and you'll definitely need a bigger turbo and IC to hit 400whp...in an STi your probably looking about 10,000 for 400awhp and in a WRX about 15-18000

^Dude, I don't mean to be disrespectful but... You seem to know about Subarus as much as I know about the Large Hadron Collider...

If you think the only differences between a WRX and an STi are a turbo and some springs/shocks (have you tried subaru.com for comparisons), it makes me wonder if it would be even safe for you to get behind the wheel of a 400HP car...

When you say you want a 400-500 AWHP sleeper, it makes me think of plain stupid street racing...

I think he was talking to you!Laugh!

But yeah, I'm going to the point where an STi would have been a better initial platform, but oh well. I didn't know I was going to go crazy with the car when I bought it. I figured just mild upgrades, I was waaaay wrong.

But like I said before, I'm going to risk the trans with the knowledge I'm going to upgrade it eventually, I'll just wait until it grenades. I'm still going to run a carbonetic single plate clutch and flywheel on the stock trans though.

This is truth. Considering the upgrade in cars is about that price if not less and you get so much more other random crap going to an STi, it's generally a no brainer.

No, the STi stock turbo is not going to get you anywhere near 400whp nor is the STi's block substantially different than the WRX 2.5L block. The value is as stated in the drivetrain and the other assortment of "goodies" like brembos, wheels, suspension, chassis stuff, hids, etc etc etc.
