Need more Power

Have a stage 2 2010 wrx hatch. Upgrades include uppipe, downpipe, aem cold air intake running on cobb access port. Need to know which would be the best parts to get more power without upgrading the turbo. Already getting headers as well as a upgraded intercooler and a protune. wondering if i should do any fuel upgrades or anything like that. Thanks for the help

Depending on the fuel, you'll be limited in how much boost you can run with the stock injectors.

I'm currently keeping my setup to 94% IDC's and that only allows me for about 18 psi. If you were to up your injectors and have access to 93 octane you could probably push 20-21psi and get some more power out of it. Go all out and set the car up to run E85 and you'll make a lot more power.

The only other thing I would definitely add is a 3-port BCS, and if you want to do an up-pipe go EWG or just leave the stock one on.

What (CC) Injectors would be good for the set up i have? I Know the stage 3 uses around 850cc and the stock injectors are 560cc i think i was thinking getting maybe 650 or 750cc ones. And deff ordering the Grimmspeed BCS. What do you think about getting a fuel pump as well? Thanks for the help man really appreciate it dont know too much about internal upgrades.

HOLY S**T, 94% IDC I'd slim down a bit on the boost. Mine are only running 87-89% and to me that is pushing it.

Don't waste money on headers. At your power level it's not a bottleneck. Intercooler I can see and a protune will help as well. Why an up-pipe? Aren't the 2006 up catless or did I miss something again:D Really once you get passed the Stg. 2 area you pretty much are going to have to change a bunch of things to see any real power....Sorry that's just a fact and yes it sucks.

No keith, you are right. There is no need to change the UP unless you are going EWG on 2006+ WRX/STIs.

Or in my case you were lucky enough to get yours cross threaded from the factory. Making it PITA to get off when upgrading turbos, leading to needing a new UP.

My tuner stated IDC's "should" be around 90% in WOT.

Then again, he's tuned cars up to 115%.

I'm not saying they won't get that high, but 90% is about the limit I'd go before upgrading to bigger injectors. I have never run IDC's higher than that even at WOT. That's just me though....;)

I was at 87% at 21psi in Utah (4,200'), moved to NE and the first log we did I was at 98% IDC's. My tuner also likes to keep it to 90% but I told him I'm fine with 95% as I've seen a ton of subies run 110+%... Which makes no sense that something can flow more than 100% which means there is already a bit of a safety margin built into them.

Either way I may or may not have 1200cc injectors on the way as I speak.

And a yellow gas can in my garage......................:sneaky:

Sea level will make a difference in a tune.. 110%, if only for a few seconds is possible, but not safe by any means. At that duty cycle the littlest thing and you're building a new motor. I have seen people do it as well, but they are running the ragged edge with that. Anyway, everyone has there own perspective as to what is ok and safe and what is danger to manifold. I just like a bigger buffer because I don't like driving my beater car more than I have to. :p

synolimit 06-22-2011 06:53 PM

im 94% 21psi taper to 15.5psi. i have 750's ready to go in though for a little more boost all around.

turmic 06-22-2011 09:01 PM

There is no buffer. But, unless you run dirty fuel or low on fuel. Then the risk is not as bad as it would seem. I don't let my car run below a 1/4 tank. My tuner had my stock injectors running over 100% before I went back for the 2.5XTR upgrade. He said it would be fine as long as I didn't plan on keeping it that way forever. Because it would shorten the life span on the injectors; running them that hard.

RcrsWetDream 06-22-2011 10:47 PM

I had cobb tell me they routinely tune WRX's over 100% if that matters. That was a bit concerning for me.

pzr2874 06-23-2011 05:41 AM

^^ I have heard of that too. But the owner probably said he wanted "X" as a HP number.

Goofy if you ask me.

synolimit 06-23-2011 09:18 AM

E tuner on 3G runs everyone to 102-103.
