No need for the boost controller. The ecu will do it just fine. Try to stay out of boost til the tune goes on it. Don't wanna hurt anything. The ecu is probably Freaking out right now.

Edit. Thought you meant a manual boost controller. Re read your post. The stock bcs will work, but the grimspeed or prodrive work better.

but if it hold the boost longer, wouldn't it shorten the engines life quicker?

I agree with brfatal, if this is what he meant, as with any upgrade to a car there is a risk of shortening the life of your car. But if you do your homework and don't beat the piss out of your car you shouldn't have any issues with it. My car has been stage 2 for 40000 miles(currently have 174,000 on the clock) I don't drive it like its the last day I'm gonna have it though. It's my daily driver and I put about 45 miles a day for work so I drive it accordingly.

It won't make any meaningful difference is what I was saying. How you drive the car, as you said, will have an infinitely larger affect on engine health.

This is really not true. You can shorten the life of your car without modification. Not changing the oil, driving aggressively, etc. You can extend the life of your car with modification. A good tune will lead to a cleaner burn, less emissions, and a healthier engine. In addition to more power. It is an incorrect oversimplification to say all changes reduce lifespan.
