Got my header and the work began

Came wrapped, but the wrap was done, and the slip joint had been leaking.

After I removed the wrap I found a fair amount of surface rust.

I cleaned it up and temporarily mounted it to get the slip joints welded up, then coated it.

Then wrapped it and silicone it.

It mounted up and sealed well. It still stinks like crazy, and the car's not done learning it, but I like it!

Yep, I'm all about performance, not sound.

Brad you still have the stock CBE right? Was there much change in the sound of the car? I mean I know that it usually changes the exhaust sound, but you usually see this done with a car that has a full exhaust. BTW, nice job on cleaning them up, and on the wrapping of them.

+1!

Nice to see you went for it! Great job on reconditioning it. Very big difference in rev-up and power delivery... Great mod! Hope your ecu adjusts to it accordingly.

If anything the car is slightly quieter. You don't hear the exhaust pulses in the cabin quite as much anymore. I was surprised how much smother the motor feels. Even at mild throttle is just seems not to need to work as hard. I need to let it learn for a few more miles before I make a guess on power. BTW my mileage is up about 2 MPG as it's learming. LOL

Thats great to hear. Im still contemplating headers or just the Grimmspeed PnP setup. I have plent of time to wait for it, but every little bit of feedback does help. Im really glad to hear you are happy with the setup.

i know you said your all about performance not sound...but im curious as to how it sounds. i personally hate the sound of 4 cylinders and the only thing that makes me like the suby sound is the boxer rumble. I heard equal length headers on a buddys wrx and personally i thought it sounded like a pos honda

With the factory CB it sounds a bit like my 325xi did. It sounds tight and smooth but not loud really. I'll get a sound clip at some point.

I went out and got a sound clip with my small camera, and it sounds WAAAAY louder then it really is so I am trying to edit the video to get it more realistic. I'll post it soon.

Very nice job refinishing those headers Brad! From what Boost said about his they're quite a compliment to the performance aspect, and if you trade off the sputtering of the exhaust for a smoother tone I'd say that's not bad at all. I truly am a fan of the boxer rumble as well, but I think I like straight performance over that any day! Nice work.

Thanks for the compliments guys. It took most of my day off, but I am happy with the outcome. Still trying to upload the sound clip.

I have the Perrin ELH on my 09, and I'm not 100% about the new sound, but it seems to add a bit of punch to the motor..
