FYI--K&N Typhoon 2009 WRX

I just wanted to share my experience.

EDITED: THIS IS MY OWN EXPERIENCE MOD YOUR CAR AT YOUR OWN RISK.

Installed a K&N Typhoon about 5 weeks ago. No issues at all. Awsome sound and good fitment. Seems to be a bit more peppy; however, the power band seems a little bumpy--may be the factory tune as it is known for that anyway.

Spoke with the dealer service dept prior to installation. They said this product will in no way void the factory warranty and does not "require" a tune to run safely.

your right, in fact a GT35 at 35psi blowing your motor into a million pieces still will not void the warrenty in any shape or form!! but they'll deni the claim

get off the factory tune before you do blow the motor (ring lands most important)

Not to be a jerk, but everythings fine? You know this cause you have a wideband A/F gauge and you have monitored it? Or just cause things seem fine you assume they are fine?

I take my dealers word for it. Maybe I shouldn't trust them, but I have a great relationship with them and I think they would tell me if something was not a good idea.

There are certain things that would void the warranty...I think a GT35 would qualify. Pretty much the only thing they recommended was intake or CBE. You guys could be right about them denying the claim who knows. I only have 5k left on the warranty so it does't really matter anyway.

I plan to install a wideband sensor with a guage soon. This will be helpful when I do come off the factory tune. I am looking to go opensource XPT soon, at least that is how I am leaning.

I just wanted to share my experience with the K&N product on my particualr car.

I understand wanting to share an experience, and its greatly appreciated. But certain things, like performance parts need more than just a seat of the pants feel to actually know if its good for the car or not. I have read both good and bad things about the K&N system, never used it personally.

Yeah you may be right. We will see when I get the wideband kit installed. If you guys are interested I will post the results; otherwise, I will keep the info to myself.

When you get the wideband please share results. This will help out other people to make a decision when the time comes for them to look at a part like this.

Okay, the AEM UEGO is installed. I have been able to log a little data however I don't have a stream to post yet due to my buffer being set to small. I will fix that tomorrow.

Idle AFR is around 14.5 to 15

Cruise AFR with throttle input 14-15

Cruise with no thottle input is pegged lean

Spooling AFR seems to be around 12-13 ish can't really tell while driving

WOT AFR is 10-10.5

Doesn't seem too lean.....maybe on the boarder. Hopefully more data will help answer that for sure.
