I posted this in the newbie section, not to much active besides 1 helpful comment. I would like more from those with 08s and what, im going to have a tuner shop look at it most likely before i think about buying it. I am looking at a 2008 wrx with 92,000 miles on it. I test drove it today and everything seemed solid. ALl gears shifted nice, sounded good. Im sure it has an aftermarket exhaust on it. I have a few questions however. Are 2008 wrx bov loud? this one was like the sterotypical fast and furious ones once you got past 3k rpm. I drove a 07 and it did not sound that way so idk if it is after market or not. The oil also looked alittle dark even though the dealership apparently changed it when they got it, it did not look milky though. The carfax said it hasnt been in a wreck or anything and i checked all the signs of repainting and it seems to check out. It also has a K&n intake on it, other than that i think its stock. The clutch also is somewhat stiff where as the 07 felt amazing, its not big deal i just dont know if its a stock clutch or not. The dealership is alittle shady that is my only qualm with this and if the car is safe and not a lemon. any feed back would be nice as this would be my first wrx. Also ive been told they need to run on 93 to run correctly and not harm the engine, is this true? http://www.premier-autoinc.com/2008_Subaru_Impreza_Milford_OH_255320290.veh
It has an aftermarket BPV so that's why you are able to hear it a lot more. Also 93 preferred nothing less than 91. Even says so on the inside of the gas cover "Premium only"
okay answers my question on gas. is there any sure way to know if it has a tune or not? im probably going to take it to a reputable tuner shop to see if it checks out
I guess my comment got lost on the interwebs. lets try again.
First off no stock WRX should sound like "fast and furious". the blow off valve thats on there is aftermarket and if you can hear it then its setup to atmospheric and needs to be swapped out for a bypass valve instead. There is some debate about how bad for your car a blow off valve is but most agree that is bad for the engine in one way or another. that intake is definitly not stock, K&N typhoon it looks like, Im not 100% sure thats the model but that definitely a K&N head shroud. the exhaust setup thats on there has tips that are larger than stock and I would assume that its at least a catback if its louder than you were expecting. Depending on what volume level your talking it could be a test pipe/catless downpipe as well.
All those parts require tuning to run safely and i would definitely look for tuning in the vehicle history. Looking at the carfacts I couldn't find any non-dealer service other than grease monkey which looks like a jiffy lube type service center. You might want to call the dealer and see if there are receipts for tuning or an accessport tuner included with the car.
It also had 3 previous owners and when a car has changed hands that many times its usually a red flag for me.
not that it matters much at this point but the front emblem is also not stock.
Personally I wouldnt take a chance on the car unless there is a tuner in its history and you can verify with them that they installed and tuned for the parts. even then proceed with caution.
I though the GFB blow off valves were black not silver. Turbo XS possibly with that ring pattern maybe?. Im guessing its setup to full atmospheric or the return hose is left disconnected if its that loud.
