First tune

The closest trustworthy tuner to me is about 7 hrs away so i was looking to get a few mods on before my first tune, i currently have a number of things sitting in the garage waiting.
- Turbo XS CBE
- Invidia Catless DP
- K&N CAI
- Grimmspeed EBCS
- Kartboy ss + f/r bushings

Since my tuner is so far away, what should the next few upgrades be?

255lph fuel pump and maybe a tmic/fmic.
Ours stockers tend to suck at 18+psi.
Other than that, injectors, and EWG you're about maxed til e85. Synolimit can tell you more, I think he's maybe got highest whp on the vf52. At least, off the top of my head.
There's a kid with less mods on a vf52 running 12.01 in the 1/4, for reference.

Yes i'm looking for a setup very similar to Synolimit. Maybe 255lph, Perrin lightened pulley, one step colder plugs and turbo xs Fmic. No chance of ever going E85 up here in Canada. We don't even have 93 octance fuel, the highest is 91 octane.

definitely upgrade the BPV if your shooting for a decent amount of boost

Prouse 05-02-2011 07:59 AM

Yes, left that out. Turbo xs RFL Bov

basco 05-02-2011 09:41 AM

BOVs are a No No on a stock MAF car do your homework

bad grocerygetter 05-02-2011 10:44 AM

+1^ i would look into a decent recirculating Bpv your car will thank you for it.

Throw it away. TurboXS H-line valves blow chunks.

Prouse 05-02-2011 11:07 AM

I did do my research and was looking to do a custom blow through like synolimit.

lk86fire 05-02-2011 11:45 AM

He's also planning fmic, so a bov can work.
I forgot to bring up a bpv though.

And I wasn't sure about e-85 in Canada, just covering bases

basco 05-02-2011 12:00 PM

just because you go FMIC doesn't mean you can go BOV, you have to go blow through, and even then it still messes with the MAF depending on the BOV placement

Prouse 05-02-2011 12:46 PM

I am gonna get my tuner to research it and see what he thinks about it. We should be able to do it b'y following syno's thread

synolimit 05-02-2011 01:17 PM

If your driving that far your not going to be doing it a lot! Adding an intercooler would be well worth it. Injectors maybe too since 91 will limit you already. Other than that it's a good list.

Prouse 05-02-2011 02:48 PM

Can I do without the injectors? How will it limit me?

synolimit 05-02-2011 10:06 PM

you can up to a certain psi/parts added. the more parts you add like bigger headers, DP, EWG, TGV deletes etc the turbo and motor will breath easier so IDC (injector duty cycle). can be kept lower. however the catch 22 is you and the car will want more boost because the car will want to make more power because of the free'er flowing air! an example was my car was at 20psi with a 14.5psi taper at 90% IDC. after adding just a EWG the turbo wanted to make 22-23psi but we didnt have enough injector. we had to scale back the wastegate duty cycles and ended up at 21psi with a 15.5psi taper and only used 94% IDC. without the EWG if we tried for the same 21psi and 15.5psi taper the injectors would push almost 100% IDC.

with 91 knock will be more prevalent so timing will have to be kept lower then say someone with 93. 93 can also run a little leaner using less fuel so the injectors wont be so maxed out. however we are only talking a few % of IDC here. to make as much power on 91 vs someone with 93 you'll have lower timing so you'll need more boost to make up for it. if you dont have enough injector then you cant make more boost.
