Post E-85...

My interest was sparked today when i was filling up and noticed an E85 pump across the way. I know some guys with more aggressive mods and tunes have specially designed E85 maps...

My question is this...

What are the pros and cons of E85 in our cars and how much power could you expect to make on it compared to 93oct and race gas...?

I searched the site for any previous posts about this and didn't find any, so i figured there might be more people out there curious as well

Garage
Depends on the setup. It's not a pre-defined amount.

1st-Get some sort of EM
2nd-Learn to tune with said EM
3rd-I've seen nightmares of said fuel systems running 100% e85 longterm
4th-50/50 mixes have good results but is not ideal for a daily driver (trying to get the 50/50 mix on a daily is not easy.

There is more power in racegas but $ for $ may not be worth buying a racemap

Look into Meth injection

Cons:
Lower gas mileage
Gas station planning so you know where to fill up, they may be out when you get there then you're screwed.
Need to up your injectors and fuel pump to the tune of at least $525 if you can install them yourself

Pro's:
I picked up about 50 hp and tq vs 93
Cost is about the same as buying 93 once you factor in price and fuel economy differences, for the power it's 100% worth it

Another con:
Too much tq for 35k mile stock clutch, currently slipping (almost 40k now) and is being replaced soon. Doing it myself and it's still running me about $900 for everything.

Yeah i noticed the price diff, e85 was 3.59gal while i paid 4.09 for 93
so it sounds like it would be effective as a race day additive with a proper tune and a 50/50 mixture...

^Yes, just learn to tune yourself or get a tune for e85 for those days.
