Ive been shopping around for a cat back to go with the downpipe and i wanna go dual tip.
Ive searched the net for any info on how much modification if required to get one to fit right on the car. Only things i can find are pictures of people who have done it which is awesome but i need to know about how to go about mounting the hangers or making new ones if needed.
I know im going to have to cut the bumper i have some finishers already to go on, so thats not much concern.
Any help would be awesome, Also sorry if this has came up before i did a quick search didnt find much.
Heres what i found out over the last week or so talking to some locals.
1. You must cut the rear diffuser on Both sides of the car driver and passenger to accommodate a Larger exhaust tip and an exhaust tip at all (on driver side),
2. install Finishers, this isnt 100% necessary but it will stop the exhaust tip from heating up the plastic or even melting the diffuser and makes it look a hell of alot better.
3. To mount the exhaust you much purchase the set up in question, Do a mock up install (loosely connect the mid pipe and muffler (if you have one) on the stock hangers then use some zip ties or something not so permanent to hang the tips. Get the tips positioned where you want them and Mark out the hanger placement.
4. Either weld in your own hangers if you have access to a welder or goto a shop and have them weld in hangers at the marked locations.
Well i took the plunge - Bought the Invidia Q300 TI quad tip for the 2011 -2014 model.
I cut the rear diffuser on both sides - was super easy. I then removed the old exhaust (which was a nightmare) with a sawzall as the muffler bolts were rusted to the point of no return. I did not have to weld any extra hangers on i used the 4 stock locations on the muffler, and 1 stock location for the midpipe was a tight fit at first. I then removed the metal bracket that had the little rubber stopper protecting the car from bottoming out and the exhaust dropped in perfectly. Had to trim some extra out of the diffuser to get the exhaust to hang 100% center. All in all took about 2 hours.
You won't be disappointed. I put quad tips on my 08 WRX Hatch. Had to cut the diffuser like others said. You can't tell unless you look very closely on hands/knees. The install was a bit painful and I would recommend getting a downpipe if you don't have one at the same time, or else you will have a leak or need to get an adapter.
I never put on finishers and never had issues with any heat.
