Downpipe question

Ok so I'm now looking at downpipes and just wondering the best option for me. I'm only looking to get to about 330-350hp so I am planing to go with a vf52 or 20g and keep the tmic. Will invidia divorced waste gate be the best option for me? This model HS08SW1DPN for 08 wrx sedan. I'm still new to this and just don't want to buy items twice. Any help will be great. Thank you

Terrible design. Its not a true divorced waste gate. Get yourself a good bellmouth downpipe.

Well said, but I was trying to be unbiased for once lol. The Cobb unit is great tho. I ran it at stage 2 and with my 20G with great results. And when I just installed my gauges it already has a great place to mount a wideband O2 sensor.

i have it. i just got my grinder out and cut the divider out.

as for the COBB i just cant pay that price! have a cat or have a 2.5" rear end. 3" SS is 3" SS. no one DP will out perform another when using the same design.

Never heard of a COBB DP rusting out, cracking, workmanship sucking, etc... like other brands tend to do.

Just saying.

Then again, get a cheaper piece and IF it does take a crap, it's not like it's a hard job to replace/fix. But why buy a divorced DP when you can get the bellmouth when shopping around?

I have the Cobb on my STi, and also have the Perrin one piece sitting in my garage. I like that the Cobb has the bung for a wideband A/F sensor, but that can be added too. The Perrin unit stays 3" all the way, like synolimit was talking about, and I don't like that the Cobb tapers to 2.5" at the flange to the catback. Both of them were catted, and I am contemplating switching over my Perrin DP for the increase in size. The Perrin one has a separate pipe for the first few inches for the divorcing of the WG.

i had the perrin too. being a dyno queen i didnt like the numbers and went catless. since im EWG now i also needed a open bellmouth. it wasnt a big deal to cut out the flange. when i sold my Perrin i did see some pitting of rust in spots and i only ran it for a month! my Invidia has been through 2 winters and looks brand new!

I had my Perrin through this winter and there's not a speck of rust. . . weird that yours rusted. Today my tuner actually recommended that I switch from my Cobb to the Perrin because of the taper. We'll see how it all performs.

I was trying not to mention it, but since it has been mentioned twice; I saw the Perrin and Cobb compared to two different cars (only changing the DP) and there was no gains at all. But that was with my tuner. All have their own preferences, likes and dislikes. Depending on your power goals it is most DEFINETLY NOT a power restriction.

I also don't like the taper in the COBB but I don't see it hurting performance too bad at stock turbo power levels.

When I finish the build I'm going to cut the back of the downpipe off (before the cat), so it will be catless and then weld a 3" flange on it. I'm also going to make a straight pipe setup for it as well so I can hack up the downpipe without worry of fitment.

I think im just gonna go with the nvidia and cut the center out. I would also like to have the a/f port so i called a buddy of mine who owns a machine shop and he will drill and tap it for me. I just cant justify spending 600 when i can make the 300 one work with a little labor. Thanks for all your input it was very helpful. Also thanks to who ever fixed the title darn iphone auto correct.

i believe the new Invidia doesnt have the divider. if it does its been cut down a great deal. as for your friend cutting and taping, thats the wrong way. you need to drill and TIG weld a stainless bung in and make sure its in the path of the exhaust fumes and not the wastegate fumes.

It looks to me on the cobb downpipe that the bung is right in the top center. Would this be ok to do the same to the invida? i ordered invida catless and EVO Wideband Digital Air Fuel Ratio kit from prosport
with Bosch wideband O2 sensor -5 wire heated LSU 4.9. I just want this gauge to get as accurate as possible reading.
