Cold Air Intake
Looking to get some minor gains in HP on my 2013 WRX. First thing will be tha CAI, i'm new to the WRX family so I need some suggestions aem? K&n? Not sure which is best price isn't huge deal wanna keep it under 250 if possible

Thanks in advance

Also any other inexpensive mods to increase HP would be greatly appreciated

And then:

Stay away from CAI's. They only induce headaches.

The above will net you the gains you are looking for. Then this will really give you the power you want:

And then a custom tune right after

Going to agree with pzr2874. The AccessPort will unlock the power gains you want, especially with the Cobb intake.

What kind of power gains can b expected from that setup

Intake and exhaust with AP and a good custom tune will sit you around 300+ on a 2013, the access port isn't necessary if you get a pro tune right away. Keep in mind tho, this will be a small build(not under 250).
Fun doesn't come cheap with a good build able car;)

An Accessport is necessary for a protune (which is specifically a tune with an AP), though there are other choices. A good custom tune is always going to be better in every way than one of the generic tunes that come with the AP.

^ pretty sure we are saying the same thing in different ways.

You don't need an AP to be tuned. You can also open source as well.

Def research into downpipes after that, thats where I really felt the power released of my 11 wrx!

dirtydeeds02 12-20-2012 12:19 AM

I don't plan on doing anything yet, but the intake AP and downpipe are def in my near future. Is it necessary to pair that dp with a 3" exhaust or can I get away w the stocker.

pzr2874 12-20-2012 05:32 AM

Stocker should work fine

WrxCruising 12-21-2012 08:49 AM

Catbacks on our newer years do a small power gain, but it usually just all sound related.

And if your keeping the stock catback, you should get a 3" to 2.5 donut gasket so you don't get any leaks.

pzr2874 12-21-2012 09:05 AM

Any reputable company should send an adapter for the connection to the DP when buying a catback.

Notice I said "should".

dirtydeeds02 12-21-2012 01:30 PM

I'm glad because I'm not a huge fan of loud exhausts. The stock is just enough.

pzr2874 12-21-2012 01:46 PM

The DP will "liven" it up a bit.

I don't know if it's still true for the 2013 WRX but in my cars day (03) it was foolish to even think about getting a CAI for the WRX unless you were well past the 300HP mark.

Without a lot of other mods and/or a re-flash it adds zero HP. It may even hurt if it messes with your MAF censer.

In fact if you even recommended a CAI for a WRX, that was a good way to smoke out the people who didn't know what they were talking about.

Did I miss something that changed?
