Don't know if anybody else caught this but the new 08 WRX's exhaust is a teeny 1.5" (the 02-07 is 2.25") when it gets to the muffler which is terrible. Even just replacing the cat-back with 2.5" piping will free up about 20 whp (dyno proven by SCC this month) and also there are restrictions on the intake side as well now.
Actually the 08 seems to make similar numbers stock to the 06-07 but with new, easier to remove restrictions. A "stage 2" 08 with an intake and full TBE aught to be a ways ahead of an 02-07...
Also, the hood is steel again (older ones were aluminum) which means switching to something lighter (like CF) is going to save you 25 lbs or so instead of just being a show mod.
Thats cool you posted that Mosc. I just was reading about that. It seems like subaru is back and forth each time the change models. Guess we will see more to come with the 08s. Im anxious to see what can be done with them.

"Stage 2, not so cool anymore, starting to get bored now."
the 02-07 had fairly... high quality intakes and exhausts (except the downpipe). The 08s are much cheaper under the hood. Note the lack of aluminum in many places. Basically, they put intakes and cat-backs in more suited towards it's stock power levels with much less headroom than the older pieces.
i could be wrong but im sure i read somewhere (possibly SCC) that the new design is because toyota is the majority stock holder of subaru this year. last year in was GM, and before that i belive it was saab...which is why there has been so many body changes

saab has been owned by GM for years. The only thing they have to do with this is that when GM owned a SMALL share in Subaru, they made the Saab 9-2 and 9-2x which was basically an impreza, and WRX with different body panels.
Toyota bought GM's share but it's not a controlling share. It's mostly just buying the right to use subaru's tech in their own cars (like GM did with the Saab 9-2). They sure as hell aren't dictating style decisions.
