Catless DP VS Test Pipe DP

Ok, so what is the difference between a Catless DP and a test pipe DP?
I have seen these "test pipe DP" for sell everywhere and brand new ones for super cheap.
can someone please give me some information about it.
I been on many performance sights and tried reading the differences between them all.
Either it all goes over my head or I don't see any difference besides just the price..........

Is the test pipe claiming you can swap a CAT into the system easily or not? If no...it's probably just different ricer lingo. To basically mean it's not legal on the road. Which all upgraded DPs are "for off road use only."

Test pipe and catless down pipe are the same thing. They call them "test pipe" because they are for off-road use only.

The "Test pipe" nickname probably came from the original intent of catless pipes:

For "Track" testing. The idea was that you could install a "Test pipe" at the track or on the dyno to test the vehicle's maximum potential.

I guess the nickname just stuck around. We catalog the "Up pipe" as a test pipe and the "Down pipe" in both the downpipe and test pipe categories.

Why would I not need a tune for a catless catback exhaust but I will need a tune for an upgraded DP?

You will need a tune for the downpipe if it is a highflow cat or catless. The ecu needs to make adjustments for the exhaust flow. Subaru's are sensitive to mods. They're not like a Honda or something similar. Adjustments need to be made to compensate for more air intake and/or exhaust flow.

Check the for sale threads on the forums and regional sections. With the version 3 coming out, people are selling theirs. I've seen some for sale on eBay too.

Additionally, naming it a "test pipe" allows companies to pass on the legal liability of its usage to the end user, thus allowing them to effectively sell it in states where the laws prohibit the sale and usage of "catless" exhaust systems.

You can get them, just need to swap back to stock for emissions. Get both Cobb AP and downpipe around the same time.

The Catback systems don't generally require a tune because they have a lesser impact on turbo efficiency characteristics than a downpipe does.

A high flow catted or catless downpipe has such a larger difference in size vs the stock DP that there is a larger pressure differential across the turbine side of the turbo which dramatically affects spool and power potential (In a good way).

If you need a deal on an AccessPORT, the V2s are crazy cheap right now since the V3 was just released. Hit me up if you need a discount coupon code forum members get a really good discount.
