question from a noob
First let me say that i finally own the car of my dreams a 02 wrx and I just got a aftermarket cold air intake for it. I understand how it goes together but i don't know how to remove the existing parts. If someone could answer my question that would be awsome.

I think the first thing someone is going to tell you is NOT put it on in the first place.

+1 for leaving the stock air box, with a K&n panel filter.

dont turn this into a cai bashing thred. theres enough of them already.

here you go man:

on the intake hose (the one with ribs that attaches to the air box) loosen the clamp that is the farthest away fromt he airbox. it is like 6 inches away just follow the tube and youl find it.

disconnect the plug from the MAF sensor...this is pretty self explanitory you will figure it out. second take the top of the intake box off, this should come off with the intake hose as well, it will take some coercing but it will come.

now there are 2 screws to get the remainder to the box out. you need a long extension (think 10+ inches) and a 12mm socket i blieve although it might be a 10mm i cant remember but im pretty sure its a 12mm.

there is one on the right and the left of the intake box if you are standing on the passenger side and looking at it. just look around for a bit they are closer to the motor than they are to the sidewall.

does that help?

search silencer delete and you will get directions on how to take apart the silencer in the fenderwell.

there you go man.

Well, I'll go ahead and explain why CAI aren't good for the WRX. The bend just before the mass airflow sensor disrupts normal readings. What actually happens is it creates turbulence which essentially circles around the area of the MAF. This throws the reading off and has a habit of leaning out the A/F ratio in our engines. The best advice is to not install it. Otherwise, WRXKidd775 was nice enough to give you instructions.

+1 for not putting it on. If you HAVE to install it, at least tell us what kind it is.
