New WRX owner

Hey, My name is Nic, and I bought my 04 WRX wagon a few months ago. Im in the process of reading "Training WRX" and planning out my modifications. Im really excited to start doing work on my car. Its really a leaps ahead of my old car.

Im not sure what you guys want to know, I climb towers for a living, play guitar, bike, etc. Stoked for winter, its gonna be a blast.

Im really just here to learn about the WRX, and take away as much knowledge as I can, so thanks in advance for the help!

I climb cell towers for the purpose of installing new technologies, tearing down the old antennas, DAS systems, etc.

After taking the car out a bit, I've noticed that on rare occasion the RPMS drop below 500, the AT OIL TEMP (yeah... at, ughhh) light pops up. sometimes this causes the car to shut off. How concerned should I be?

Welcome to the site, Nic. It's an awesome auto, we agree.

May I ask where you got "Training WRX"? I have been trying to track a copy down and found out that the updated version is not available from the same author, and hard to obtain.

I actually have a PDF version I obtained online. An Australian auto company provided it as a strictly sample version. I planned to order it. I just need version 3, it says in the forward about the author moving on to something or another.

Thanks for the welcome, mates!

I hate that book...I really do, but at least you're taking the time to educate yourself instead of just haplessly putting parts on there and hoping for the best.

Keith!! I agree though it's nice to see someone reading/educating rather than modding out of the box of ownership.

As you can see OP we're a good bunch of guys to know. I look forward to helping you out in the future or visa versa 👍

Welcome to the forum. Let's work on that issue you have on hand.

Any mods on the car?
What's the mileage?
When was the last sceduled maintenance?
If the car has mods, was it tuned properly?

It has 103888 miles on it. As far as I know there are no mods on it, and the carfax looks to be consistent, for what its worth. I need to do the timing belt. Doesn't seem in bad shape, but better safe than sorry. Probably do that when I do my fluids. Also used seafoam on the vacuum line and gas tank. Wasn't a whole lot of carbon exhaust.
