New guy from Cincy

Hello my name is Derek, im currently living in NKY 5 min from cincy. Found this site while looking for STIs and thought i would join to do some research and expand my knowledge of a different car. I currently own a 98 Chevrolet Z28 Camaro and an 06 Suzuki GSXR-1000, but am definantly looking for a new project and all around fun car to drive, been looking at 05-06 Impreza WRX STIs.

Well thats not the only reason, i would just prefer and white one. Also on a side note my friend told me to steer away from the 04s? I looked up some info on this on here and it said the only difference was some interior things and the transmission was beefed up to the BA gearing? Is that the only difference or performance wise is there a difference between the 04 and 05 Impreza WRX STIs?

The gearing is shorter in first of not second as well. Basically, the first batch of STi's were meant to be driven off the lot and make it to the rally course the same day. They were shipped without rear seats, apparently they were installed after they got unloaded because they knew most people would want a rear seat (which is why the fronts and rears are different materials.) They were also shipped without a stereo. The wheels lug pattern is different, which I say is a good thing because the 04 STi is the only one with a WRX bolt pattern so your BBS wheels are more valuable. The suspension for the 04 is also different than the other years. The 05+ have a much more aesthetically pleasing center console in most people's opinion. In 05 they started in with more creature comforts. But you still have all the other year's STi goodies, IC sprayer, adjustable HID's, Driver Controled Center Differential, beefy six speed.

I don't really think there is any reason to steer away from an 04 though, I owned 2, both great cars.

thanks for the info, im new to the STI world coming from a LSX V8 background. I just dont want to have to dump a bunch of money into a car im gonna be spending 16k on, and have to fix flaws. But if its just seats and stuff like that im changing all that anyways lol.

16K on an 04-05STi ?

Still a little high. Are you stuck on the blob-eyed models ?

06-07STi's look the best IMHO... But you know how that is.

no i just want a white STI, I want a car i can have fun in both in summer and winter. Bc my Z28 camaro doesnt exactly like snow to well lol, plus snowboarding is greatly depreciated when i cant even get out of my driveway lol. And ive been looking on autotrader and lemonfree.com, and ive found acouple but kinda iffy, bc i dont want a modded one that has been beat to shit. Also how many miles is too many miles on a STI?

Depends on year really.... And again, depends on who owned it previously.

I'd pick up an unmodded 07STi with 80K on it opposed to one with 40K modded.

Nice condition 04-05 STi's with a decent amount of miles would sell all day in my area for 16k, they're expensive here, especially white. 16 sounds like a fair price from where I'm sitting, if it doesn't have 100k miles and crappy mods.
