Thumbs up New guy from Asheville, NC. 2002 WRX

Hey everyone,

I'm new to the Subaru world. I've had diesels my whole life. Diesels and motorcycles is about all I know. The world of Subarus is new to me so I'm here to learn about my car and what I can do to it.

I bought a 2002 Subaru WRX in January from a guy in Georgia. He was the second owner of the car and is the one who did everything to it (it doesn't have much but is perfectly fine for a daily driver which is what I need).

I got to school in Johnson City, TN at ETSU. I love anything to do with a motor as well as the outdoors. I hiked 815 miles of the Appalachian Trail this year while attempting a thru hike.

I look forward to reading on the forum! I'm looking for things I can do to my car to improve performance and add a little power. I don't want anything that is going to blow up on me in a year. Just enough power for good running wrx with a little added power.

My car has the following so far:

STI Injectors
VF34 turbo
5spd Transmission from ###. (I think that's what he said)(It feels really low geared)
2008 SIT interior
3" turbo back exhaust (I believe it's a 3")
and a few other little things

I haven't had a chance to realy dig into the car and check it out yet. I've never owned a 4cyl vehicle let alone a turbo car. Everything I've ever owned has been a diesel or two wheels.

Thanks!

-Chris

Welcome to the forum! Post a few pics if you get a chance. We might be able to help you identify some of the parts on the car.

I just ordered a few things for the car that I'll be putting on within the next few weeks. The VF34 and STI Pinks are going as well as the top mount.

1. Turbo: http://www.kronosperformance.com/sto...roducts_id=136

2. BOV Adapter: http://www.kronosperformance.com/sto...roducts_id=642

3. FMIC: http://www.kronosperformance.com/sto...roducts_id=606

4. Intake: http://www.kronosperformance.com/sto...roducts_id=641

5. Down-Pipe Gasket: http://www.kronosperformance.com/sto...roducts_id=649

6. Up-Pipe Gasket http://www.kronosperformance.com/sto...roducts_id=650

7. Spark Plugs: http://www.kronosperformance.com/sto...roducts_id=662

8. BCS: http://www.kronosperformance.com/sto...3dc44534f3009f

9. Injectors: http://www.kronosperformance.com/sto...roducts_id=471

I wanted to get everything on the car done at one time (everything that I wanted to do I should say). I'm putting on these parts, changed all the fluids to AMSOIL, and replaced the rear axle seals as they were slightly leaking. Everything else on the car looks to be in great shape and the engine checked out fine at Subaru.

The car will be getting tuned/dynoed after everything is installed.

Thanks for all the replies to this thread!

Below is the link to my brother's website. He's a film student and is all about everything to do with the aspect of film and photography. He lives in Savannah, GA most of the year. If anyone close to the area would like him to shoot their car (especially Subaru's) I'm sure he would be more than willing to do so for minimal costs.

As stated above, I hiked a great section of the AT this year (I stopped less than 150 miles short of the halfway point in Harpers Ferry, WV) and this is the quick slide show he put together of the hike if anyone is interested. I give him props on his work as I couldn't do half the stuff he does.

Dale at Boxer4Racing put the car on the dyno and tuned it on Wednesday. It started out around 284hp @ 247tq. The best pull of the day was 291hp @ 259tq with 19psi. Dale said he could get a little more out of the car, but I bought this car to be a daily driver and numbers don't mean much to me so we stopped there. I felt it was a safe place to stop as I have a stock 2.0 block and definitely don't want more boost being added. I like the current setup a lot better than the old setup with the vf34 and pinks. It's not a race car, nothing too fast, just what I needed and wanted it to be.

Here are some bad cell phone pics I took while Dale had it on the dyno:
