Hello all

Hi everyone my name is chris, i previously owned a 1985 300zx turbo that ran high 12's and i blew the engine so i sold the car, i'm new to boxer engines so i'll be around the site alot . . i haven't purchased a wrx yet do to my picky behavior and the need to know about a car before i get involved, i'm looking at the 02-05 range hoping to get it to around 300hp and still have it as a daily... i'm hoping to do alot of the work with my own hands. . . feedback is very welcome and much appreciated.

Welcome to the site! The WRX responds very well to simple bolt on mods and 300whp is only a turbo swap away. There are certain supporting mods that go along with that as I'm sure you know from your Z but it's certainly a reasonable target.

Feel free to ask lots of questions. We're a very social bunch.

Yea i figured 300hp was a decent goal but i'm sure the mods list looks different than what i encountered in my Z, i've noticed alot of talk about how boost controlers and such are bad on the wrrx's where as i was using an EBC on a t3/4 turbo setup with a big FMIC 3" exhaust and rebuilt engine running about 16 psi which is alot for that engine setup. . but doesn't seem to be that much to a wrx. also the older Z's didn't come with almost any supporting mods (no stock intercooler very restrictive exhaust ect. . ) so i am expecting a different challenge with the wrx.

yeah, the computer on the WRX is a hell of a lot more advanced than what they had in 1985. The one in your Z controlled far less than in today's cars. These days, you have to adjust the computer basically for any substantial performance mods. This is mostly why boost controllers are a bad idea. They remove boost control from the ECU (which is quite capable of doing it on it's own) which may be more convenient than adjusting the computer but it's not going to jive well with all the other adjustments the ECU constantly makes.

haha yeah, welcome to the site, i too am basically doing the EXACT thing you are i'm looking for a WRX as well, in the same 02-05 years, and also looking for only 300hp i've already been looking around for several months now, been learning and whatnot, so welcome to the search! Just FYI, you should NOT get a CAI and a BOV as your first mods.
