got a new 09 WRX HATCH

Hello All! I just bought the 09' blue WRX hatchback. This car is a hoot!!! I love it. It has put the fun back into driving again..I traded in a 1999 dodge intrepid that did me no harm for 10 years but I looked at the WRX for months. I love that it is a little sports car but also has the room that I need for the dog and I can still put stuff in the back seat..I got the premium model. It was on the showroom floor so it had a moonroof and the nav. I hope to put on some additions to the car..I was wondering if anyone knew if SPT had the cold air intake for the 09 WRX and also I was wondering if the heat shield was important to get on it? I havent' driven stick shift since my 1987 Escort GT! I'm a little rusty but not doing too bad! any advice is great.. I tried to load a picture but it wouldn't work..guess I'm a little rusty at that too..

SPT did not make an intake for the 08-09 models. Subaru does not back any other intake. so its not covered in your warranty. Your turbo already has a heat shield so the SPT one is mostly just another shiney piece to look at. Congrats on the purchase...you need to get some pics up so we can check out your ride. Dont worry about being rusty at driving stick...thats what warranty's are for

welcome, good choice on color and body. don't worry, it took me a while to get used to driving my wrx, it's different than any other stick-shift i've driven. my advise is : don't be afraid to let the clutch slip a little, you'll take off smoother. the awd threw me off when i first started driving mine, it's different having power going to all wheels instead of just 2. so are you still breaking it in? that's the hardest part. after that you'll be addicted to boost!

I am about to buy the extra heat shield though even though it has one, just because it gets too much heat near the inner-cooler (if you're running it around a bit and open the hood you'll feel the heat wave immediately) and the extra layer will help that. I'd recommend one of the K&N drop in filters for your current stock intake for now, but like Boosted said, Subaru of America will not warranty any after market intakes. Doesn't mean you can't get one, just won't be covered if they can somehow link whatever went wrong with that piece (which leads to all sorts of components so yeah...). Welcome and have a blast!

Welcome...enjoy the new ride.

The Heat shield she was referring to....i believe was the SPT SRI heatshield. Not the turbo heat shield. Which if they made a SPT SRI for the 08-09...then it wouldn't be that bad of a idea to get the heat shield.
