Exhaust connections

Hi.
This is my first time signing up to a forum. My newfound addiction (04 wrx wagon) has forced me deeper, searching for the best way to extract power from my wagon. So here's my first question: I bought a injen downpipe and a Tanabe Super Medallion Racing cat-back exhaust. Now that I have bolth parts ic that the cat back has some sort of donut gasket connection whereas the downpipe has a flat 2 bolt flange. What do I need to do to connect the two pieces? My thought was to cut off the cat back doughnut flange off and attach a 4" piece of flex along with a flat flange that will match up. Is this realistic?

Easier just to buy a crucial racing 3" copper gasket (assuming its a 3" exhaust) Thats the way mine is sealed and it works fine.
