'09 STi Owner Trades Up to an '04 WRX

Folks,

Just got myself a blue '04 WRX sedan, in stock tune, and am loving it. Although overall it may not be as quite as capable as my old STi, it's seems lighter, more compact & agile and still a tremendous amount of fun!

I'm already part of a car Club in Eastern Canada (spda-online.com) and a hardcore performance Subaru lover.

Top 3 things I love about Subaru performance autos:

1. 4 doors practical (when most sports cars have 2),
2. Forgiving ride height (so speed bumps aren't an issue), and
3. As capable off-road as on asphalt. Come wintertime most performance autos get put away, but WRX's get performance winter tires to go out and play some more.

The WRX "Rex" has a great reputation and is more than suitable for all the auto club participation I'm involved with; nav rally, Autocross and track lapping.

I've swapped the rear trunk for an '04 STi rear wing item and will get a Cat-less turbo up-pipe installed shortly. Aside from that, planning on running it basically stock and focusing on skills development.

This is a pretty cool forum, that I'm happy to be part of.

Have fun man. I wish there were more autoX events near me.

Why go from the STi to the WRX, maybe money, maybe none of my bees wax.
I'm going the other way but yes, they are all fun.
Welcome to the site;)

Blaze,
I missed your comment above when I first signed up.

Cost of ownership was the biggest factor in returning the STi for sure. But now that I own this one and it's well past it's warranty I can improve it for motorsports like I've always wanted.

I thought I'd be dissapointed stepping down to an older Rex from the STi but the opposite is true. I'm at least as happy with the '04 WRX than I was with the STi, and I loved that one too!

Congrats on the new purchase! I'm interested in hearing your thoughts on the comparison to your "old" STI after you have done some upgrades on the WRX.
