Shift Points

anyone know the best shift points for an 06 wrx, the stock turbo doesnt hold boost all the way to redline with a stock wastegate, so does anyone know the prime shift points for a drag race?

My 06 holds boost just fine. I normally shift at about 5,500 give or take depending on how close the person is to me during the race...if not I take it near red line but dont touch it. Practice and get a feel for the car before you race.... ( race on track )

if u watch ## boost gauge beyond 5500 boost will start to fall about 3psi... thats around the ball park of 30 horse.... so im tryin to find the best shift point to hold boost the longest and spool faster for the next gear... (i always race at the track)

Tighten your wastegate about 2mm and you will notice a huge difference in your turbo...but don't go crazy with tighten it

is that safe to do without proper tuning? i'd like to get some more power out of my car as well... im getting way too used to the wrx power i NEED MORE!!!

Do uppipe and down pipe, then some form of EM

i thought you shift at max hp's rpm which is around 6,000-6,400 depending on your car -check your official specs

joker97 04-17-2006 04:09 AM

oops my mistake peaks at 5600rpm! hmm too early isnt it. get better management for higher peak and shift there? hmm

my question was still not answered... is this ok to do without proper tuning?

nick4592 04-20-2006 01:04 PM

you will be good to go tightening down the wastegate without tuning....all this will accomplish is keeping it shut for a longer period of time...as long as you aren't pushing 18 psi you will be good to go

Tuner05WRX 04-20-2006 03:08 PM

can you do this with an 05 wrx also?

nick4592 04-20-2006 05:06 PM

it'll work on any adjustable wastegate....which all of our cars come with from the factory

absolutexk 04-21-2006 01:56 AM

how much of a difference will i feel? and do u have a picture of what part i have to tighten... Also have you done this yourself? how do you tighten it 2mm? how do you judge the angle? will it give me any low end improvement? or just more boost at higher RPMS? sorry alot of questions...
