Raced him...

... at the auto-x ROFL (bet you thought this was another "street racing" article... gotcha!)

But seriously... I have a friend that lives down the street from me. He owns an SVT contour. He's probably dropped over a grand in his car on port and polish, new fuel rail, injectors, lightweight flywheel, CAI, exhaust system, carbon fiber hood, and a few miscellaneous things. He dyno'd it and came out with 190 whp. I guess my stock WRX makes the typical ~170 whp.

Our best times
Impreza WRX (Me)
56.9 sec

SVT Contour time (My Friends)
57.8 sec

Integra Type R (Some other guy. that's stock! Those things are beasts)
53.5 sec

A stock Type R beat you?

genkidama20 11-09-2005 12:54 PM

Yes... a stock Type R... major factors include:

1) The ITR is a light-weight little sucker (2,500 lbs if I'm not mistaken) for 195hp.

2) Track was really twisty, I didn't get out of 2nd gear. WRX's (as a matter of fact, any turbo charged car) are weak under low boost situations !Thumbs Up

3) ITR pwns on the track. One word: l33t (it's a general consensus in the auto-x world, just ask around).

4) I suck. And I admit it proudly (atleast until next season when I get some more experience under my belt ;) )

Are you a good doubleclutcher? Sounds like a small autox course with alot of bends. Did you go through them all in 2nd?

genkidama20 11-09-2005 01:54 PM

Not great, but I can do it... did a lot of rev matching to try and get back in 1st gear... a few "grinds" here and there, oops :p Sometimes I give up the double clutch thing, i'm not quick enough at it yet... by then, I just slip the clutch a little to get me back up to speed in 2nd ... hehe :o

Darn that 1st gear to heck!
