Launching My Wrx


I have a stock 02 wrx, I need to know the most effective way to lauch my car off the line without destroying my clutch and or axles.

Effective way of protecting your clutch and tranny:

don't launch

heh...

well, if you want to launch just take it easy and be percise. Too much clutch will burn clutch. Too little will damage the tranny. Course, launching it all puts wear on both even when done properly

oh, and clutches are cheaper than trannys err on the side of too much clutch if you're going to err

Ok..how to launch from the tree

Clutch all the way in
First light goes 100% Throttle
on the last yellow light drop the clutch'

This will launch the hell outta your Rex.....now with that said; this is not good for the drivetrain at all....and with a 02 wrx you may end up with a broke Tranny after doing this a few times. But your clutch won't burn too bad from this

if you're planning on buying a new tranny soon, then this is the way to go.

My advice is to rev up to maybe 3k rpms and pull the clutch out slightly until you feel it engaging and then leave it there or push it back in a little, then whenever you are about to go, with the clutch almost engaged, hit the gas and the pull the clutch the rest of the way out. That's what will POSSIBLY burn your clutch a little, but it will save your tranny from a lot of the stress... Besides if your clutch goes out trying to learn to launch, you might as well upgrade to a nice performance-street clutch...

do not apply WOT before your clutch is fully engaged

lol the only time i redline and drop the hammer is when im on dirt. other wise a 3.5 r's and a expirenced cluth release is nice considering i have a 440fp act clutch in my 02 rex.

Ya... dropping the clutch is a quick way to save yourself from having to decide what to do with an extra $3500. That's what dropping my clutch the first time after owning my car 2 weeks earned me. And that was a used transmission (installed). I wish I could tell you how TO DO it, but all I know for sure is that is HOW NOT to do it.

I'd like more feedback too from other people. As soon as I'm done with my build and break-in and tune, it's straight to the track, and I want good numbers.

Someone fill us in...
