launching

What rpm do most people launch from? Ill be heading to the track but I really dont wanna ruin my clutch. Just wanna utilize my all wheel drive capabilities while still having fun, but not destroying anything.

In general, the higher the RPMs you launch at, the faster you go. But, if you want to keep it safe, keep it around 3,000 - 4,000 RPMs.

Your clutch will be fine if you know what you're doing. My clutch is still going strong after:

25k miles of driving & 3 auto crosses & 2 drag events & numerous "street racing" encounters

I launch at 4500-5000rpm. My clutch is still doing great.

I launch at ~3000rpms just enough to get the turbo spooled. I don't find much gain out of launching harder and it makes it noticeably harder on the clutch

When you guys launch at ~3k do you slip the clutch much? If I launch at 3k-3.5k I slip it but barely, I've never been with someone who actually launched AWD 'properly'. At that rpm, I still get a good chirp outa the tires and a hard launch - maybe too hard?

I don't like to launch at 3k because you have to slip the clutch to much so that the engine does not blog down / lose RPMS. I like to keep the car in the powerband from the time it starts moving. I launch just hard enough so that the wheels do not chirp or if they do its just the least bit so that I am not putting to much stress on the drivetrain.

i have 75000 miles on my 02 wrx!! with 42 time slips in front of me from the dragway the past two years and i have many upgrades non of which is a clutch, thats still factory, and i still dont feel any slipping!!!. anyway i bounce my revs at 4500-5000 rpms bouncing over and over then i slip the clutch out. at about the halfway mark to it being let out i start slipping the gas downn so that at the same time my clutch pedal is completely out, my gas is completely to the floor! i get constant 1.9 sec 60' like that. good luck

you should try an auto cross. there's one this weekend at gulf greyhound park, entry at the door is $35, though you need to register by tonight. its way fun, more so than drag racing IMO
