Drag race prep

Im headin up to the track soon and im just lookin to see ### everyone does to prep their cars for a drag race..... im thinkin stuff like; tire pressure, suspension settings, launch rpm, staging light setups, IC sprayers, and the like.... thnx guys

Grab $10 for racing fee, put helmet in car, turn on ignition :-)

Seriously, there shouldn't be too much prep, it's a street car. Some things though

1. Try to have only between 1/4 and 1/2 tank of gas. You'd be surprised how much gas can weigh. It won't make a lot of difference, but a tiny bit (very tiny)

2. Tire Pressure. Go with tires at your normal pressure. If you are finding that traction is an issue, lower your tire pressure 2psi until you find a good setting.. Just don't take them down too far.

3. Launch RPM - 4.5k-5k RPM, feather it quickly off the line. Don't pop the clutch, but don't hold it partially engaged real long either.

If you have enough mods that you think you can break into the 13's, you better have a helmet, or they'll tell you not to come back without one (if you make a 13 sec pass)

Moved to track talk.

Check out this guide here... http://###############/forums/viewtopic.php?t=36

Most important things are to slip the clutch at launch, wear pants and shoes, check your fluids, bring money and form of ID, try to cool off your IC in between runs. That's about it... good luck.

Sim sim sima down nah! Some places let you rent them... so most importantly, check with your track about that and any other restrictions they have before going.

trek98xc 07-18-2006 06:02 PM

Im just sayin... everyone is gonna need a helmet. I would hate renting a nasty rednecked up helmet from the track. If you dont have one borrow your buddies crotch rocket helmet

I make sure that 100 shot of NOS doesn't blow the welds on the intake.

remember..it's not how you stand by your car it's how you race your car.

I try to remember not to fry my piston rings I don't want the mad scientist to have to tear apart the block.

No granny shiftin!

I live my life a quarter mile at a time.

ROFL ROFL ROFL J/K

on a serious note please wear a helmet, the local track I race at doesn't require a helmet, I wear one anyways even though I get made fun of for it.

9d2TSi 07-19-2006 07:45 AM

Most tracks don't require a helment for cars running over 13.5. At least the track here doesn't.

JiveMasterT 07-19-2006 09:29 AM

I'd wear a helmet anyway just because even though you only run a 13.5, the dragster next to you could throw a tire and hit you at 200+ mph. I value not being a vegetative state.

And if this were to happen to you, a helmet is going to protect you....

How???

fast_dak 07-19-2006 10:24 AM

I believe the majority of 1/4 mile tracks, anything that is 13.99 or faster requires a helmet. Well, at least the 2 tracks I venture at do :-)

As far as the dragster next to you tossing a tire, blowing up.. Depends on the track.. Some tracks will send the real fast cars by itself, others, you'll see a 7 second car line up next to an 18 second car.... Dunno about you, but I'll give that 7 second car about a 5 second lead from the tree
