Man, I'll tell you right now. It's going to be on. They're pretty quick. Just try for a good launch and don't miss any shifts. I don't see him totally smoking you though. Just get the launch down and give her hell. !Laugh!
I've put a few k miles on a 99' M3 convertable so I think I'm a pretty good judge on this one. The WRX is slightly faster 0-60 if you get a good launch but high end the wrx can't keep up with the 3.2L If you don't get a good launch though, you might look pretty bad. The M3 is not slow. I think the quarter mile favors the M3 slightly but it's a drivers race.
Then again if he's automatic and you're stick, that would be enough to give you the advantage.
Want to kick his ass? Make him drive a small road course in the snow. RWD suckage!
I seen a video of a 05 STI vs a 97 M3...both stock by what I rememeber and the M3 beat him off the line "STI did not launch" and STI caught him and past him about a car length or more ahead.Wasnt a bad run i was suprised how fast the M3 was

an STi is a whole different ballgame. You could give the M3 80+hp more and it'd still not keep up with an STi from a decent start. Why? The m3 is 20+% heavier.

You give that M3 80HPmore and your in trouble. Like i said, it was lucky to be only about a car lenght behind the STI. as I see these cars are no joke. My buddies looking at a 2000-2003 cant remember exact year, but hes looking to run me. Now will that year M3 run me....Im not sure but could be interesting.
lol...i have the exact exerience you're looking for only unfortunately it wasnt at the track and i don't wanna get your thread locked...pm me if you want some info!Thumbs Up

well guys i have the results back from the track..my buddy ran an even 14.0 and i was right behind him at a 14.2...not bad considering hes been driving stick his whole life, and this is my first manual car...
I love m3s. IN fact I have always wanted one but can't afford one! I think wrxs are the best bang for your buck around in terms of performance. M3s always seem to be seting the standard for performance sedan/coupe type cars, so if you are keeping up or beating one in your wrx, great job!! esp ### you probably paid half!! STis are simply amazing...they are almost as fast as the 2005 m3s. I must say though, something I like about the m3s is that there is no turbo lag...
I am faster then an e46 m3 in a straight line, and also where it counts the most, around a track. Stock vs. Stock, the e36 m3 will beat a stock wrx. An STi will beat an e36 m3 but not an e46 m3. Given, this all depends on the drivers of each car.
