1st time at the track in a WRX....

I took the wifes 05 WRX wagon (mods 3" down pipe with cutout, up-pipe, MBC, cobb street tuner custome tune) to the track tonight for the first time. All runs are with the QTP cutout open.

1st run was on pump gas with the custom 93 octan map from Dan at Godspeed. Temp high 70's. 3rd gear boost peak 16 psi

2.329 ------------------------60 ft
6.306 ----------------------330 ft
9.506 @ 77.72 -----1/8 mile
12.186 -------------------1000 ft
14.479 @ 97.88 ---1/4 mile

2nd run was on 100 octane unleaded gas with the custom 100 octan map from Dan at Godspeed. Temp high 70's. 3rd gear boost peak 16 psi

1.929 ------------------------60 ft
5.734 ----------------------330 ft
8.906 @ 78.36 -----1/8 mile
11.560 -------------------1000 ft
13.850 @ 98.51 ---1/4 mile

3rd run was on 100 octane unleaded gas with the custom 100 octan map from Dan at Godspeed. Temp high 70's. 3rd gear boost peak 16 psi

2.024 ------------------------60 ft
5.880 ----------------------330 ft
9.061 @ 78.28 -----1/8 mile
11.726 -------------------1000 ft
14.011 @ 98.46 ---1/4 mile

4th run was on 100 octane unleaded gas with the custom 100 octan map from Dan at Godspeed. Temp low 70's 3rd gear boost peak 18 psi.

1.863 ------------------------60 ft
5.599 ----------------------330 ft
8.715 @ 80.06 -----1/8 mile
11.347 -------------------1000 ft
13.624 @ 99.24 ---1/4 mile

5th run was on 100 octane unleaded gas with the custom 100 octan map from Dan at Godspeed. Temp low 70's 3rd gear boost peak 18 psi.

1.836 ------------------------60 ft
5.599 ----------------------330 ft
8.761 @ 78.94 -----1/8 mile
11.414 -------------------1000 ft
13.695 @ 99.00 ---1/4 mile

Unless I am way out of line it looks to me like I am running times comperable to a stock STi :) These runs are proff positive that turning up the boost past 16 psi on the stock turbo does absolutly nothing for you. I think that most of the 1/2 mph gain I had in trap speed on those last two runs was due to the drop in temperature.

Even on my pump gas run I trapped at almost 98 mph. Looks like the 100 octane tune gained me about 1.5 mph over all.

Stock turbo loses effeciency at roughly 18psi, depending on many factors. Good numbers.

NICE.. keep up the good work..

cosmo's been saying 16psi was about it for years now. This is just more fuel for the fire :)

Nice evidence though, thanks for the numbers!

my car is a 2004 wrx w/ ecutek at 18psi on 93octane and i have just a turboback and my car ran 13.7 with 2.0 60ft times. 18 psi is completly safe as long as its tuned right. Ive been runing it strong for 25k knock on wood

Fourdoor 05-24-2006 12:36 PM

I didn't say that it was not safe, I had zero knock and the car is running great.... but the difference in trap speed between 16 and 18 psi was aprox 1/2 of a mph and that increase in trap speed also occured after a 10 degree drop in ambient air temperature.

not to bad. now run it on 93 at 18 pounds. and a 60 foot 1 ten lower and u'll be set.!Thumbs Up you should be able to pull the same times. givin the temps are cool.

Hell, I was traping at almost 98 mph on 16 psi of boost with 93 octane in the heat of the day. I think I could run a 13.8 to 13.6 on 93 octane and 16 psi as the car sits right now. I was suprised to be able to get 3 out of 5 runs down in the 1.8xx 60' times.... I don't really see any 1.7's in my future :) Simply put, I am not that good of a drag race guy and I am OK with that.... I just ran the WRX to have fun while my EVO is getting a new clutch put in, along with a more agressive tune. :D

Nice runs Keith. Are you going to the SO or the Mitsu/Subaru showdown this year?

100% will be at the DSM shootout.... not sure on the WRX/EVO shootout... since I run both an EVO and a WRX I would have to hate on myself no matter what I ran or how well I did ROFL
