turbo/tranny question

I've read a lot of different thing about what the stock 2002 tranny can handle hp wise. but not a lot of it seems consistent. i was wondering if it could handle 300-325 whp assuming i didn't mash on it. or if it can really only go to about 280 whp or so?

You can that much power as long as you realize like you stated that you dont thrash it around like some immature idiot. I have seen a few claims of over 350 WHP being done on the stock tranny.

Sounds decent. RAs are better than stock (about 15% roughly). I know that coming up with cash for PPGs is difficult. Im sure at the power level and the RAs you will be happy. Good luck with it all.

i honestly don't see the point in getting ppg's. I mean, they cost 3800 brand new (i believe) and i could get the "bulletproof" sti tranny for 400-1200 more. to me i might as well just save up the extra couple hundred to get the sti tranny. but thats just my preference.

I wouldn't call an Sti tranny bulletproof over some PPG gears. Plus with an Sti tranny you realize you need to change gears in front and rear difs. And its going to cost a whole hell of alot in labor if you don't do it yourself. Neither are a chep option but being cheap is thrown out the window when heavily modding any car. I would save up for the PPG's I am partial to the straight cut wine. Reminds me of old muscle car timing gears the sound of power.

i've seen ppl doing swaps from like 4500-5500 and that includes everything needed. but yes the ppg gears are really nice. like i said i would just prefer the sti if i was going to spend that much.

I just noticed you live in Vancouver. There is a place called Silverline automotive that sells everything you need for the swap. Might want to look them up will save you on shipping and maybe they are fairly cheap on installs.

I guess what it boils down to me is if you want a 5 or 6spd transmission. Im partial to the 5 spd but thats just me. Like suddenthomas said, neither are cheap, but neither is modding and being on the safe side.

i will definetely check it out. thanks!

I'm not gonna be driving like i will need a 6 speed so i am sticking with the 5spd. just want it to be strong enough to hold up to 300whp if it even gets that high.

4500-5500 for EVERYTHING including labor? how much would it cost me for just the set up and no labor? and just out of curiosity are PPG's significantly better than RC's for the money?

PPG gears are stronger than the sti 6spd and especially the RA gears. In my honest opinion, if you like to drive your car hard, they are the best investment you can buy for your car. Yes they can be expensive, but sometimes you have to pay to play.

Have you ever seen a picture of the PPGs compared to stock gears? They are significantly bigger/wider. If you read about the company and the process of making them and desinging them. But it is a business. Like stated, gotta pay to play. Just dont think you are set after a tranny. The next to go would be your axles.
