Alright so i have my 97 Eclipse GST up for sale. a guy offered me an 03 WRX with 130,000 miles plus 1500 cash, its in good shape and everything but he was driving it today and it started making a slight knocking noise, he says its probably the rod bearings and i agree as ive heard the rod bearings in the ej20 are weak, so my question is this should i make the trade, and what kind of trouble im i looking at as far as fixing it goes? any help would be great thanks guys
I would have to say, whole new shortblock, oil cooler and oil pump. Heads and turbo would need to be cleaned and inspected. Easier to replace the oil pan than clean also. Figure on $15-1800 + if you do it yourself, $5-7K to have a shop do it.
Which is why all of my oil system and pan is being replaced.
