As the topic says, I've got to re do some 03' WRX head gaskets and want to clean the heads up as best as I can before they visit the machine shop. I've looked around quite a bit on the internet. "Subaru Mike" seems to use super clean de-greaser and a power washer to cleaning heads. Is this safe, logical, ill-advised, etc? Cams and buckets will be out of course.
i used brake clean, a soft scotch bright pad for cleaning dishes, and compressed air. I would guess that as long as you got all the water out and dried before any oxidation happens power washing would be fine as well.
If you want the best look bring it to a machine and have them glass bead blast the heads. They will literally look brand new. Wish I had the block done while I was at it
