short block

whats a good company to go with for a short block im going to do a 2.5 hybrid swap:D

brfatal 05-31-2011 08:49 PM

Just a warning (since I've had 3 of them). Hybrids do have a much shorter life span than your stock engine due to a much higher tendency to knock.

If I were you I would go with either a built 207 short block or a built EJ22 both Crawford and Gruppe-S build good motors your best bet is to find a few companies do some research and go with who you feel the most comfortable with or just build it yourself

diesel paul 05-31-2011 10:30 PM

shortened life span due to higher compression type of knock or bearing knock
ya i heard crawford is the the way to go

basco 05-31-2011 10:41 PM

slightly higher compression and the fact that the combustion chambers are designed for the 2.0 causing poor combustion

brfatal 06-01-2011 05:58 AM

I've gotten terrible engine build information from Crawford, so I wouldn't go anywhere near them personally.

diesel paul 06-01-2011 07:11 PM

or maybe just find a used sti block with low miles or is it worth the built bottom end im looking for under 400 horse

superuwrx 06-01-2011 07:37 PM

i recently bought a short block from outfront motorsports out of california. im sure if you called them and told them what you wanted they could build to your satisfaction

basco 06-01-2011 07:50 PM

there is another member here (wagonracer) and former member (Boost Addict) that have also had positive experiences with outfront

turmic 06-01-2011 10:11 PM

I don't know it you can say that Vim had a positive experience. His outfront block broke. But, i'm not so sure it was outfront's fault.

basco 06-01-2011 10:44 PM

he trusted them to build another motor IIRC

turmic 06-01-2011 11:06 PM

Yeah, Vim should've just bought a Cosworth longblock though. I think Outfront covered the motor under warranty or something even though BoostAddict blew it up.

brfatal 06-02-2011 05:45 AM

As I'm finding out now, don't have Cobb build the block.

synolimit 06-02-2011 09:57 AM

Ya Vim said it was his fault with his motul 300 race oil that shoulda been changed way sooner like after a race. His didn't do a oil analysis but said it was 3,000 miles or something.

diesel paul 06-02-2011 09:50 PM

ya outfront has built me an my family some pretty reliable an good running motors for our sand rails ha ha ha never thought to ask him for a build on a low horse low compression short block
