could anyone tell me if this would work? and older ej25 sohc with either a wrx head or sti head. which would be better and how hard would this be to put into my wrx? and, im not too savvy on engines, but wouldnt putting a wrx head w/ dohc onto an engine that had sohc make that engine a dohc engine? or are the cams not part of the head? sorry im such a newb! the reason im asking is because my friend is doing a complete sti swap into his imreza, which inclutes a new complete engine and everything, so i thought i could help him help me . what do you think !Thumbs Up or :notgood: ?
I am not familiar with the old style 2.5 SOHC STI so I can't say which head is a better choice..
As for the SOHC and DOHC switching to a new WRX head would indeed put you at DOHC status.. The cams are bolted into the heads.. This is a picture of my personal DOHC ported head.. You can see the cams bolted to the head..
I personally have a 2.0 ported WRX head on my 2.5 STI short block.. Lethal combination..
very awesome. one thing i didnt think of, though. would the valetrain still work going from a sohc to a dohc? GAAA!! i just explained to someone tonight how the entire engine, ECS, and oxygen systems work and are related on an f-18 tonight, but i still dont know diddly about cars!
The Valve train is COMPLETELY contained in the heads.. The only area I see "Potential" issues in is Valve clearance.. The SOHC might have more clearance then the DOHC setup, thus you could put a valve down into a piston.. NOT cool.. But I don't know if this is a valid concern as I am familiar with older STI engines..
very cool. its not an sti engine however, its just from an older imreza, do you think that could be a problem? i dont thing so because if an sti engine would fit into his car, then shouldnt his engine fit into my car?
If you put your heads on that 2.5L block you will basically have an 06 power plant setup.. You will have more low end grunt and your stock TD04 Turbo will spool crazy fast.. But it will also die out on the top end.. It would be a great time to up grade to a IHI VF 34 or 39... But then you would have to do injectors / pump and all that..
I would honestly suggest an ECU upgrade as you will need a custom tune..
