Need advice on Compression #'s
I am looking to purchase an 05 STi with 52,000 miles on it. It has Cobb stage 2 (turbo back exhaust with access port tune.
I had a Subaru mechanic check the compression (wet and dry) as well as Leak Down Test done. I am not sure if I should be "concerned" about the compression results or not? They are as follows:
126, 125, 126, 126 psi (prestty much the same wet and dry)
Leak down test results as follows:
6, 7, 7, 8%
Is there are any call for concern regarding the compression numbers? The mechanic said they are lower than spec, but the car has a tune and that could affect the numbers and he said the more important thing is the consistency between cylinders.
Thanks A LOT!!
A tune is not going to affect compression numbers. Those are pretty low. You want 140s. It might be his gauge though.
My car measured about the same a good 20k miles ago (which is like 4 years ago for me). Don't flip out about it, those numbers are reasonable. Is it costing you some performance? Probably a little. I agree with your tuner and brfatal's assessments both. You're looking at an 8 year old car, expect some degradation.
Thanks for the advice. I am going to pull the act on it!Thumbs Up

Good call. Just bought a blue '04 WRX myself, and am drooling at the thought of a COBB Stage 2 Power Pack, that you are getting with your purchase. Nice!
Take some pictures, and show us what it looks like when you get the chance.
